How much workshop capacity are we losing without realising it?

Our CEO, Simon King, joined Motor Trade Radio Podcast to discuss why the industry's technician shortage is only part of the workforce challenge and how improving productivity could unlock significant untapped potential across UK workshops.

From reducing non-productive tasks to embracing AI and supporting technician development, Simon shares practical insights on building a more efficient and resilient automotive workforce.

🎙️ Thanks to the Motor Trade Radio Podcast team for having us.

August has already brought us a new starter, international travel, milestone birthdays and a 100% contractor placement record. Not a bad month, and it's not over yet. 👏🚀

In honour of International Dog Day, here are a few of the four-legged members of our team. ❤️

They may not be on the payroll, but let’s be honest, they’re definitely part of the work family.

We’d love to see yours too!

Our monthly team update comes a little later than usual, but better late than never. It's been a July full of reasons to celebrate, and we're excited to share some of the highlights.

🎂 First up, birthdays. Happy Birthday to Justin Ampofo, Richard Creaser, Samantha Toye and Peter Ivory. And an extra-large slice of cake for Pete, who is about to join the prestigious 50 Club.

👋 We've also welcomed Ellis Cole and Kaylee Lenton to the team. They're already making a brilliant impact. Fantastic to have you both on board!

🚀 Massive congratulations to Lottie Jackson and Terrell Lloyd-Conlon on their well-earned promotions. Watching talented people grow and develop within the business never gets old.

🏆 July also saw us come together for our quarterly Town Hall, celebrating the achievements and hard work happening across our teams every day. So much can be achieved when great people pull in the same direction. Special shoutout to Finn Molloy, Todi Omotoso, Richard Creaser, Terrell Lloyd-Conlon, Nadège Gavarret-Clarke, Declan Gleghorn, and Kasia Sly for their team awards. Congratulations all!

🔥 And because no month of team celebrations should end without food, we wrapped things up with a BBQ in the sunshine. There was delicious food provided by Rodeo's (the brisket and burgers deserved their own award), plenty of football kicking, and just enough questionable sporting ability to keep things entertaining.

A lot to be happy about this month. We genuinely love our team 👏

It's Glioblastoma Awareness Week. This is a cause that's incredibly close to our hearts.

For the past few years, the Autotech Group team has proudly supported Brain Tumour Research , and this week we'd like to help shine a light on a disease that still doesn't receive the attention it deserves.

Every year, around 3,200 people in the UK are diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM), the most common form of brain cancer in adults. The statistics are difficult to read, and even harder for families to live through. Despite decades of research in other areas of cancer treatment, no new treatment for glioblastoma has been approved in more than 20 years.

But this week isn't just about the disease. It's about the patients facing an unimaginable diagnosis, the doctors providing care, the families supporting loved ones through it, the researchers looking for answers, and the campaigners who continue to push for change when it would be easier to give up. Their refusal to accept that things can't be better is what gives hope to so many families.

We're honoured to play a small part in helping to raise awareness of a cause that urgently needs more attention, more funding, and more breakthroughs.

If you have a few minutes today, please take a look at the work they're doing. If you're able to donate, every donation helps move research forward. If not, simply sharing their message can help more people understand the reality of brain tumours and why change is needed. Thank you!

Autotech Group is proud to be among the first organisations to sign the Government's Cyber Resilience Pledge.

Yesterday, CEO Simon King joined senior business leaders at 10 Downing Street for the official launch of the initiative, with Autotech Group becoming one of the first organisations to commit to the Pledge.

As the only business from the automotive sector among the first wave of signatories, our inclusion reflects the work we've already undertaken to strengthen governance, information security and cyber resilience across the business.

For us, signing the Pledge isn't the start of a journey – it's the latest step in one we've been on for some time.

As the automotive and wider mobility sectors become increasingly connected, protecting information, strengthening governance and building resilient systems has never been more important. That's why, over recent years, we've invested in internationally recognised standards including ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, ensuring quality, information security and continual improvement are embedded across everything we do.

The Government's Cyber Resilience Pledge reinforces our commitment to making cyber resilience a board-level priority and continuing to provide our customers and partners with the confidence that security and governance remain at the heart of our business.

As Cyber Security Minister Liz Lloyd said: As one of the first to sign the Cyber Resilience Pledge, Autotech Group is sending a clear message to its customers, investors and supply chains that cyber resilience is a core part of how it does business."

Cyber resilience is a shared responsibility, join us and help secure our nation - learn more about the Government's Cyber Resilience Pledge here: GOV.UK.

We spend plenty of time on calls and emails, and they’ve got their place, but nothing really compares to getting out and seeing everyone face to face. Because while the automotive industry is built around vehicles, it is ultimately powered by fantastic people.

So, this week, our very own National Account Manager, Sam, and Contracts Manager, Stuart, are out on the road across the North of England and Scotland, catching up with our clients, Autotech Recruit contractors and Autotech Academy interns. One thing that's really stood out so far? The welcome. Everywhere they've been, people have been incredibly friendly.

⭐ A real highlight was visiting one of our client workshops where almost the entire team is made up of technicians who are either former Autotech Academy interns or current interns getting their first experience in the industry. Seeing people we’ve supported go on to build careers in automotive never gets old.

🚗 The car boot is doing its best impression of a mobile warehouse, packed to the brim with some goodies, although stocks are disappearing fast!

⚽ And in a bit of footballing irony, on the day England are preparing for their first World Cup game, Sam and Stuart have just crossed into Scotland. Here's hoping England can produce a result that's every bit as positive as Scotland's was on 14 June.

A lot of miles still to go, but it's been such a brilliant trip so far. Thanks to everyone who's welcomed Sam and Stu through the door.

Two fantastic days at the UK Garage & Bodyshop Event 2026 🙌

It was great to be back at the NEC, connecting with so many forward-thinking businesses, individuals and industry partners. From conversations around skills and training to showcasing the latest in workshop technology, the energy across the event was incredible.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand – we loved catching up with familiar faces and meeting so many new ones.

Early-month celebrations are a little tradition at Autotech Group. And there’s plenty to celebrate and shout about this month:

🎂 Happy Birthday to Alistair McCrindle and Jack Salsbury! Hope you both have a great day and a brilliant year ahead.

👋 New starters joining the business over the last few weeks:
• George Jones (Automotive Technical Trainer at Autotech Training)
• Luca Casarano (Permanent Recruitment Consultant at Autotech Recruit)
• Gabriel Bridgeman (Marketing Executive at Autotech Group)
Always good to see new energy coming into the team!

🚗 Last week, we were at the UK Garage & Bodyshop Event. A strong few days of conversations around people, skills, technology, and what the workforce of the future really looks like in automotive.

🏃♀️ And outside of work, a big shout-out to our female team members who took on Pretty Muddy at the weekend. We can confirm that despite the sunshine, there was still plenty of mud. They’ve raised nearly £1,500 for Cancer Research UK – a brilliant effort for a great cause.

That’s June so far! Halfway through the year already, and plenty more to come.
