We’ve all heard it time and time again: staff shortages are one of the biggest challenges facing the automotive industry right now. Everyone’s looking for answers, but maybe the solution is closer than we think.

More and more, the conversation is shifting towards where else we can look for talent, and how we create workplaces where different ways of thinking and working can genuinely thrive. Sometimes, it’s simply about looking at things a little differently.

There are incredibly talented people out there, often overlooked, who have the skills, mindset and potential to succeed in our industry.

The challenge is that we don’t always know how to reach, support or create the right environment for them to thrive.

That’s exactly what we’ll be exploring at our upcoming event in London: Turning Neurodiversity Into A Workforce Advantage. You’ll hear real experiences, honest conversations and practical takeaways from people already doing things differently across the industry.

If you’re involved in hiring or managing people in automotive, it’s definitely one to consider.

👉A few additional places have just become available. If you’d like to join us, you can register here: https://autotechgroup.co.uk/creative-workforce-strategies-for-automotive-hr-leaders-turning-neurodiversity-in-to-a-workforce-advantage/

The latest joint KPMG and REC UK Report on Jobs (May 2026) highlights that temporary hiring has now recorded growth for the third time in the past year, as businesses continue shifting towards more flexible workforce models.

New data also shows temporary workers now account for 5.5% of the UK workforce, up from 5% in 2024, as employers respond to economic uncertainty, ongoing skills shortages, and AI adoption.

At Autotech Group, we’re seeing this shift first-hand across the automotive aftermarket.

The latest IMI labour market data shows there are currently around 16,000 unfilled vacancies across the UK automotive sector, particularly for vehicle technicians.

As dealership workshops and independent garages adapt to EV growth, evolving diagnostics technology and changing customer demand, many are increasingly relying on flexible workforce solutions to maintain productivity and access specialist skills when they need them most.

This isn’t simply a short-term recruitment trend. It reflects how the automotive industry is evolving. Businesses that combine technical expertise with workforce flexibility will be best placed to navigate the road ahead.

Big news to end this week: our Marketing Executive, Piers, is heading to Canada for his next chapter 🇨🇦

It's not quite goodbye, but we’ll hugely miss him around the office. Since joining Autotech Group as a Digital Marketing Apprentice, he’s grown into a highly valued Marketing Executive and someone who’s truly liked and appreciated by everyone across the whole business - an all-round great egg.

Good luck, Piers. We’re excited to see what’s next for you on the Pacific coast! Watch out for the grizzly bears 🐻

📸 Naturally, we’ve taken this as the perfect excuse to turn the office into a full-on Maple Land celebration for the day...

Not quite sure how it happened, but somehow we’ve already reached the five‑month mark of 2026. Another month done, and a good moment to recognise the achievements of the amazing people who make Autotech Group what it is.

🚀 Promotions

• Well done to Leonnie Bergin on her promotion to Head of Permanent Recruitment at Autotech Recruit - a well‑earned step, backed up by some great results.

• And congratulations to Ryan Ford on becoming Head of Autotech Academy. A brilliant move and fully deserved.

🏃‍♂️ Fundraising

• A huge well done (again) to Gavin, Laurence and Rob for completing the London Marathon and raising an amazing amount of money for their chosen charities along the way. Serious effort.

A lot to celebrate and be proud of this month, which, as our Autotech Group tradition dictates, means lots of cake was involved 🍰😄

We've just wrapped up a really uplifting town hall to close Q1 and look ahead to the rest of the year. There was great energy in the room, and it genuinely felt like everyone had a voice, especially with the chance for all of us to vote on the four team awards.

A big shoutout to our winners: Nadège Gavarret-Clarke, our 'Magic Maker'; Ollie O'Dell, who truly went 'Above and Beyond'; Samantha Toye, the epitome of 'Idea Machine' and Stuart Graham. the definition of a 'Team Player'.

Huge congratulations, everyone - so well deserved!

And a big thank you to all our presenters for bringing the session to life with such creativity, clarity, and enthusiasm. It was brilliant!

This month’s company update arrives a little later than usual, but cakes still appeared on the first day of the month, as our office tradition demands (as it was April Fools’ Day, there were a few questions about whether they would actually show up - but they did, as they always do) 😉

With cake confirmed, we had a few things to celebrate across all Autotech Group brands:

• Autotech Training winning the Skills and Learning Award at the MKBAA 2026
• Celebrating April team birthdays: Declan Gleghorn & Piers Ovenden
• New signage installed at head office, giving the space a fresh, modern look - well done to the marketing team
• Autotech Academy registering 230 newly qualified Level 3 vehicle technicians, all ready for their first roles in the automotive industry
• Welcoming Zoe Pepper to the team as our new Web Manager
• Todi Omotoso successfully passing his End Point Assessment and achieving a distinction in his Level 3 apprenticeship - fantastic achievement
• Autotech Recruit clients now almost fully transitioned to a digital timesheet process, making things simpler and more efficient for everyone
• Jacob Ofori completing his first solo consultancy trip to Scotland for Autotech Connect (small aircraft definitely not his favourite part of the journey!)
• A strong response rate to our Neurodiversity in the Automotive Aftermarket
survey - link here to take part: https://lnkd.in/eNV6vZEK)

A strong few weeks all round, with plenty to be proud of across the business. Well done everyone!

Wishing everyone a bright and enjoyable Easter from all of us at Autotech Group.
