After what felt like many months of picking up fencing after the storms it was nice to get back to some landscaping.
This job involved building a retaining wall out of sleepers (trying to leave as much of the established planting intact as possible) so I could level the area to leave an open graveled space for seating.
A deck was constructed higher up the garden giving views of Minehead and beyond.
I also made the stairs to the new sections of garden wider and safer in some places using timber decking and others sleepers with gravel treads all with handrails.

Here is a selection of a few jobs I was asked to do in the latter part of this year.
A small section of cobble path required lifting and re-laying, a trellis fence was removed and replaced with stainless steel wire using the original timber posts. And the creation of a seat/ planter around a tree the customer supplied the stone effect blocks and circle of patio stones.

Managed to lay this small sandstone patio.
To avoid having a step off the patio onto the lawn I removed the turf about two metres around it and graded the soil up to the patio height before relaying the turf.
I feel this has created a nice area for seating and has blended into the established garden really well.

This project was a fun challenge, the original fence had come down but the timber retaining wall had rotted out so after discussing the options with the customer they opted for a concrete block retaining wall.
All the old timbers had to be broken out and the concrete holding them before new footings were laid then the blocks before the new concrete post and feather edge fence on top.
The old sleepers retaining the flower bed had to come out to allow access so I reinstalled it using concrete path edgers as they will have a longer lifespan than timber.
The customer is considering how to finish the wall so I hope I get to do that soon.

So as always I got excited about the new project and started ripping it apart before I took the before photos.
There's a lot of hidden work in this one, once the old concrete patio was removed I discovered there were sections on the wall that had been previously damaged that needed repairing and as I was going that far the customer asked if I could put some weep holes in the wall so it made sense to put some clean drainage stone in behind the wall so we did.
Then I got to lay the lovely porcelain paving stones cutting the curve once laid following the arc of the wall before rendering the wall that the customer is happy to paint at a later date.
Very heavy work in the hot weather but really pleased with the finish.

Over twenty metres of sandstone path leading to a greenhouse. The path was edged by a reclaimed sleeper wall with a section of the path left out and graveled allowing access for vehicles without damaging the sandstones. Concrete curb edgeing was used to retain the gravel and the flower bed. The rest will have soil graded up to the path and grass seeded.

Some before and after photos of a very overgrown garden cleared. What was the lawn was removed and purple slate was laid on top of a membrane to reduce maintenance. This will allow planting to break up the area, which the customer will add later.
The patio area I cleaned and ground out the old pointing relaid the places it had sunk and repointed. Hopefully it will give a new lease of life to the garden
