This customer had a fantastic logshed but sadly filled with whole limbs of wood and old bits of builders wood that had nails and screws in it so this job involved dismantling the contents, sort the good from the bad and then saw, split and refill the shed with use able logs. This is part way through the job.

Turning a customers fallen Beech tree into logs for them today.

Beech is one of the best woods to use as firewood for 3 reasons;

1. It has the highest BTU rating by volume of all UK woods so you burn less logs for the same heat output.

2. Very low smoke (ideal for Pizza ovens!).

3. Burns so clean it produces very little ash.

If you like to smoke meats, Beech is a good all rounder for smoking and produces a smokiness that is subtle and not overpowering.

Another day at the office. This customer had a huge pile of timber rounds from trees fallen by a tree surgeon a few years back. Not only was it an unsightly mess but the customer needed logs for fuel. Luckily the wood was still OK so all ran through the hydraulic splitter and stacked in the log shed that I cleared out and made watertight for the customer.

This customer just wanted some big rounds sawn up and split into big chunks/slabs of wood. Instead of the hydraulic splitter it was time to bring out my custom splitting maul, Aka "The Bismark" for a good upper body workout 💪💪

Ideally, firewood needs to have a moisture content below 20% to burn cleanly and efficiently. On many jobs, the customers wood is ready to burn as the fallen tree or timber has already dried out before splitting, as is the case here.
