This month marks one year since Ash joined us as Chief Revenue Officer – and what a year it’s been.

Ash has brought real focus and momentum to our commercial strategy, helping us strengthen the way we approach sales, develop our pipeline and build the foundations for sustainable growth.

From introducing greater structure across our sales function to embedding our CRM and creating better visibility across the customer journey, a lot has changed.

We're 21 this year, and Ash has spent her first twelve months helping us level up how we approach commercial growth.

And while there’s plenty to celebrate, we’re even more excited about what’s ahead.

Thank you, Ash, for everything you’ve brought to the team in your first year – your energy, ideas and determination have made a real impact.

From 1 September, supervision stops being the deciding factor. What matters is what the person does, and how often - more than three days in any 30-day period, or overnight.

Anyone who now meets the definition needs an Enhanced DBS check with Children’s Barred List information.

What to do now:
📋 Audit volunteer and supervised roles against the new definition
🔎 Identify who needs Barred List information from 1 September
🗓️ Submit applications before the August rush

Regulated activity with adults is unchanged.

If you are unsure which of your roles are caught, our team can talk it through 💬

Schools may be winding down for the summer, but safeguarding teams can't press pause until September.

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 has now been published for information and comes into force on 1 September 2026.

The updated guidance should already be on the radar for schools and colleges in England.

Updates include areas such as online safety, AI, mental health, financial exploitation, gender questioning and safeguarding practice.

These updates shouldn't be treated as policy-only changes. They could affect training, governance, safer recruitment processes, DBS checks, barred list checks, regulated activity decisions and the evidence held within the single central record.

We'll be sharing more on the 2026 guidance in the coming weeks.

For now, if your school, college or trust is reviewing safeguarding checks ahead of the new academic year, speak to our screening team today:

After the recent heatwaves, the drive towards cleaner energy feels less abstract.

Behind that shift are the people who will build, maintain and support the infrastructure needed across the UK.

But clean energy growth is creating a mobilisation challenge, not just a hiring one.

👷 More workers
🤝 More contractors
📋 More records to keep in order

People may need to be in place yesterday, but checks still need to be consistent, evidenced and aligned to current requirements.

When responsibility sits across employees, suppliers and project sites, gaps can be missed until an audit, contract review or assurance process brings them to light.

If your organisation is reviewing screening across clean energy projects, are you asking the right questions?

This year, we're celebrating 21 years of CBS.

It's been an incredible journey, and we'd like to thank our community, clients, partners, candidates and our amazing team for being part of it. Your trust and support have helped us grow, adapt and continue doing what we love.

To mark the occasion, our Founder, Rachel Bedgood, has shared her thoughts on how background screening has changed over the past two decades. From AI-generated CVs and identity fraud to changing compliance requirements, the hiring landscape continues to evolve - and so do we.

As we look ahead, we're excited about the future of our industry and about continuing to help employers make confident hiring decisions.

Hiring fraud is evolving, compliance expectations are rising and continuous screening is becoming the norm. Rachel Bedgood explains what employers need to know after 21 years in background screening.

ICYMI: The Employment Rights Act 2025 is set to change the hiring risk landscape.

With unfair dismissal protection expected to apply after just six months of service, and the statutory compensation cap due to be removed, employers will have less time to identify a poor hire and potentially greater exposure if things go wrong.

That makes robust pre-employment screening more important than ever.

In our latest blog, we explore:
✔️ Why recruitment processes need reviewing now
✔️ The role of employment history verification, identity checks and criminal record screening
✔️ How organisations can build a more consistent, auditable hiring process ahead of the changes

As hiring risks increase, having a structured and defensible screening process in place before a candidate starts work can make all the difference.

Trust is at the heart of everything we do.

At CBS, every member of our team is screened to BS7858 – the British Standard for security screening.

We're not required to do this, we choose to.

Because when organisations trust us with sensitive candidate information, Disclosure records and employment screening, we believe the same high standards should apply to our own people too.

It's part of our commitment to delivering smarter screening and safer futures.

There's a version of background screening that's purely transactional. You submit. The system runs. A result comes back.

That's not how we work.

Every client at CBS is supported by a named specialist who knows your sector, your role types and your specifc requirements. When a case needs attention – whether that's a candidate query, a reference that isn't responding, or a compliance question – there's a person to call.

Not a ticket queue.

We built CBS because we believed background screening deserved to be done better. More human. More reliable.

If that's what you're looking for, drop us a DM.
