What a long and fascinating history this Grade II listed building has and I'm so happy to be working with a great client team and Salford Council to secure its future so it can once again stand proudly in Eccles. Having undergone severe fire damage, Monks Hall needs to be carefully assessed both physically and from a conservation point of view to understand how it could be repaired and used in the future.

There isn't a lot of guidance out there on how to repair fire damaged buildings and each case is very much unique, but there have been some large, complex buildings that have suffered catastrophic fires over the years and there is research out there. I'm sure the approach we take for Monks Hall will be challenged as everyone has different but valuable views, but as always there are lots of factors at play and we need to balance the preservation of the heritage asset with other social, environmental and economic benefits.

Monks Hall has been vacant for the last 22 years and has been the subject of vandalism and another fire, so the best future use for this building is something where it is fully used so it has the best possible chance of being maintained. I hope to bring you another update soon.

I'm thrilled to have been a small part of the successful planning application at Hillsborough Park in Sheffield. Courtside Hubs CIC asked to assist with a Heritage Statement for their new hub, which includes a new building with cafe and activity space, padel courts and MUGA.

The heritage context was complex- Hillsborough Park is a Conservation Area, the park itself is a non-designated heritage asset and there are a number of Grade II listed buildings and structures in the vicinity, including Hillsborough Hall itself! It was a pleasure to work with and to help bring an exciting project move towards reality.

Thank you very much for the fab Google review

Finally it's stopped raining and the sun can show off these beautiful buildings in their best light. In Bewdley today for a site visit, I haven't been before but would certainly go back! Next stop today is a bit darker and possibly a bit less pleasant to walk around, but equally enjoyable and interesting!

What a glorious day to be visiting Bowdon, where a new padel court and canopy is proposed in the conservation area. Did you know padel is one of the fastest growing sports in the world? It's a mix between tennis and squash apparently - I'm yet to have a go!

Beautifully done extension to an 18th century cottage to provide 21st century accommodation. Love contemporary next to old, especially as this was done using high quality materials and detailing. The couple had even saved and refurbished the old pigsties which are just out of shot! The next project is an extension to an outbuilding which requires an assessment given it's in the setting of this Grade II listed cottage.

A beautiful 17th century building that was once an inn and now a beloved family home. It's about to go through a big, but sensitive transformation for the latest family members. Looking forward to researching the history for this one and the completing the heritage statement for the planning/ LBC application.

Stoke-on-Trent is so colourful! Thoroughly enjoyed my site visit today to Middleport Pottery and Furlong Mill to have a look at a nearby site.

Middleport was bought by The Prince's Regeneration Trust in 2011 and went on to receive Heritage Lottery Funding in 2012. It is a Grade II* building that continues to be the home of Burleigh, as well as a vibrant visitor attraction. Well worth a visit and they make a great cuppa in the cafe!

Furlong Mill was established in 1842 and continues to operate today, providing raw materials for the pottery industry. Grade II and just down the road from Middleport.

Hope you get to Stoke one day, it's got so much potential and is a heritage and architectural feast for the eyes!
