Gritty People

Gritty People Curious about people? So are we. We help people understand themselves and others through practical insights into human behaviour. I'm guessing you have .. Why?

Because when behaviour makes sense, better choices naturally follow. Gritty people was born from a passion and a deep curiosity of people, all people, from all walks of life. We find the interactions between people fascinating, not to mention how an individuals mind and focus influences successful, and sometimes not so successful outcomes! We work with primarily with leaders and athletes to develo

p their use of the five attributes of Grit. Have you ever experienced a time in your life or career when the odds are stacked against you.... but somehow you have managed to get yourself over, around or under that obstacle? we all have a bit of grittiness in us, it's there to build upon and develop, if we choose to...

We help you better understand your current level of self- awareness, why? because your level of self -awareness directly influences your emotional responses, guiding your thinking and behaviour, allowing you to manage and adjust responses to suit any situation and achieve both your short and long term goals. So, what is Grit?

> Courage
> Resilience
> Contentiousness
> Excellence (not perfection!)
> Endurance

If your self awareness and therefore emotional responses are not in hand, if you are not currently able to manage your distressing emotions, if you struggle with empathy then I'm going to take a punt and guess some of your relationships, and generally what you are getting from life is not where you want it to be. If any of the above describes you (or you in certain situations or contexts) then you are in the right place ! because this is your opportunity to get grittier ! Effective relationships, are out of reach without awareness of others,

Awareness of others is pretty tricky if you have low/no self management strategies

Self -management is absolutely not possible if you are not aware of your own emotional patterns and behaviour (self - awareness)

In short, no matter how smart (IQ) you are, you are not going to get very far. because no amount of academic and intellectual ability so going to help you with human interaction (EI). At Gritty People we work with you to develop this untapped resource, be true to yourself, change the story and achieve results beyond belief.

Have you ever replayed a conversation in your mind for hours...
..while the other person probably forgot it five minutes later?

Most of us have.

The conversation ended.

The pressure didn't.

Why?

Because the event finished.

The story continued.

Over more than twenty years, one pattern has appeared again and again.

People often carry pressure long after the situation has passed because they're still giving it meaning.

The cost is exhausting.

We relive moments that no longer exist.

Question ourselves.

Imagine futures that haven't happened.

The reward begins when we become curious enough to ask:
"What story am I still telling myself about this?"

That question doesn't change the past.

But it can change your experience of it.

People respond less to events than to the meaning they give those events.

Pressure Is Perception.

Sometimes the pressure isn't in the moment anymore.
It's in the story we keep replaying.

04/08/2026

One comment can make one person doubt themselves.

The same comment can motivate someone else.

What changed?

Not the comment.

The meaning attached to it.

Over more than twenty years, one observation has appeared repeatedly.

People rarely respond to events alone.

They respond to the story they create about those events.

The cost of missing that is spending years trying to control everything happening around us.

The reward is discovering that changing the meaning changes the experience.

That's where different choices begin.

People respond less to events than to the meaning they give those events.

It was never the message, it was the meaning you gave it.

The moment perception changes...

Behaviour begins to change.

Have you ever gone to bed convinced something was true...
..only to wake up the next morning and see it completely differently?

Most of us have.

I've noticed that some of our strongest emotions arrive long before we've understood what's really happening.

We feel rejected.

Embarrassed.

Angry.

Worried.

In that moment, those feelings can seem to explain everything.

But over the years, I've learnt to become curious before becoming certain.

Because emotions usually tell us that something matters.

They don't always tell us the whole story.

The moment we pause long enough to ask,

"What else could be true?"

we create space for better choices.

I've found that some of our best decisions don't come from ignoring our emotions.

They come from understanding them.

Have you ever noticed how the right decision doesn't always feel like the comfortable one?

Most of us expect growth to feel exciting.

Over the years, I've noticed it often feels something else first.

Uncertain.

Awkward.

Messy.

Not because you're doing the wrong thing.

Because you're doing something your mind hasn't learnt to feel comfortable with yet.

One of the biggest misunderstandings I see is people taking discomfort as a sign to turn back.

Sometimes it's simply a sign that the old way no longer fits, but the new way doesn't feel natural yet.

I've learnt to be careful about judging that moment.

Because some of the biggest changes in our lives begin when nothing feels settled.

The middle rarely feels comfortable.

That doesn't mean you're lost.

Sometimes it means you're growing.

23/07/2026

It's amazing how often one small question can change the way we think.

Over the years, I've learnt that lasting change rarely starts with having all the answers.

It starts with becoming curious enough to ask a better question.

I hope this week's Mind Hack gives you something to reflect on and perhaps even a different way of looking at yourself or someone else.

Most of us have.

Which is interesting.

Because it reminds us that behaviour often says what words don't.

Sometimes the quietest person in the room has the loudest thoughts.

Sometimes the angriest person is carrying hurt.

Sometimes the person who seems distant is simply exhausted.

The trouble starts when we decide we already know why someone is behaving the way they are.

That's where misunderstandings grow.

This week, instead of asking,

"Why are they behaving like that?"

Try asking,

"I wonder what might be happening that I can't see?"

Curiosity doesn't excuse behaviour.

But it often explains it.

And understanding changes conversations.

People make sense.

The question is whether we've become curious enough to understand why.

One of the most consistent observations we've made over more than twenty years is this.โฃ
โฃ
People rarely repeat behaviours because they want to.โฃ
โฃ
They repeat them because those behaviours make sense within the story they're living.โฃ
โฃ
That's why intelligent people sometimes doubt themselves.โฃ
โฃ
Confident people lose confidence.โฃ
โฃ
Capable leaders avoid difficult conversations.โฃ
โฃ
Talented athletes hesitate under pressure.โฃ
โฃ
People stay in relationships they know aren't healthy.โฃ
โฃ
Or keep repeating habits they've promised themselves they'll change.โฃ
โฃ
From the outside, those behaviours can seem confusing.โฃ
โฃ
From the inside, they usually make perfect sense.โฃ
โฃ
Not because people lack knowledge.โฃ
โฃ
But because behaviour follows patterns long before it follows intention.โฃ
โฃ
That's why trying harder so often creates temporary change.โฃ
โฃ
The underlying pattern remains untouched.โฃ
โฃ
Over the years, one question shaped our work more than any other.โฃ
โฃ
How do people begin to recognise the patterns they've stopped noticing?โฃ
โฃ
That question eventually became ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐‚๐จ๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Œ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐โ„ข.โฃ
โฃ
Not a collection of techniques.โฃ
โฃ
Not another motivational programme.โฃ
โฃ
But a practical way of helping people recognise the stories, patterns and assumptions that quietly shape the choices they make every day.โฃ
โฃ
Because once those patterns become visible...โฃ
โฃ
People discover something they didn't realise they had.โฃ
โฃ
Choice.โฃ
โฃ
Not the choice to become someone different.โฃ
โฃ
The choice to respond differently.โฃ
โฃ
To think differently.โฃ
โฃ
To behave differently.โฃ

It begins by helping them understand.โฃ

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to give someone else good advice...
..and how much harder it can be to follow your own?

Most of us already know what we should do.

We know we should stay calm.

Speak up.

Trust ourselves.

Stop overthinking.

The interesting question isn't why we don't know better.

It's why, in the moments that matter most, we don't always do what we already know.

Over more than twenty years, I've noticed that pressure has a habit of introducing us to our strongest patterns.

When life is calm, knowledge often leads.

When life feels uncertain, old stories often take over.

That's why change isn't just about learning something new.

It's about changing what your mind automatically returns to when pressure arrives.

The more I understood that, the more compassionate I became with people.

Including myself.

Because behaviour doesn't just reveal what we know.

It often reveals what we've practised believing.

Have you ever put off a conversation because you knew it was going to be uncomfortable?

Most of us have.

Over the years, I've noticed something interesting.

People rarely tell me they regret the moments when they finally found the courage to speak honestly.

What they remember are the conversations they avoided.

The boundaries they never set.

The apologies they never made.

The opportunities they let pass because the timing never felt quite right.

Courage doesn't usually feel like confidence.

More often, it feels uncomfortable.

That's why so many people mistake courage for fear.

But maybe fear isn't the opposite of courage.

Maybe it's simply the place where courage is most often needed.

I've found that some of the moments people are proudest of didn't feel brave at the time.

They simply felt necessary.

โฃ
That doesn't mean every decision is a good one.โฃ
โฃ
Or every behaviour is helpful.โฃ
โฃ
It means every behaviour has a reason, even when that reason isn't immediately obvious.โฃ
โฃ
Over more than twenty years of working with leaders, teams, athletes and individuals, one observation has remained remarkably consistent.โฃ
โฃ
People rarely struggle because they don't know enough.โฃ
โฃ
They struggle because knowing and doing are rarely the same thing.โฃ
โฃ
Most people already know many of the conversations they need to have.โฃ
โฃ
They already know many of the habits they'd like to change.โฃ
โฃ
They already know the standards they'd like to live by.โฃ
โฃ
Yet behaviour often stays exactly where it is.โฃ
โฃ
โฃSo we stopped asking,โฃ
โฃ
"What do people need to know?"โฃ
โฃ
And started asking,โฃ
โฃ
"What do people need to understand?"โฃ
โฃ
Because we've repeatedly seen that knowledge alone rarely changes behaviour.โฃ
โฃ
Understanding does.โฃ
โฃ
That simple shift became the foundation of Gritty People.โฃ
โฃ
Everything we've developed sinceโ€”our workshops, coaching and, more recently, The Mind Coding Methodโ„ขโ€”has grown from that same observation.โฃ
