We can all end up briefly get caught up in paying attention to some ni**le or thing in our lives that is bothering us

We can spend 15 minutes watching a YouTube clip and thinking we have found the answer to how to cure that problem.

Looking up the new hot yoga class or whatever it is that makes us feel like we have put the work in to solve or reduce the problem.

The reason this almost never works is because we just threw attention at the problem in a semi-automatic way. But there was no conscious intention input.

This is also true in workplaces. Time and again I see organisations who have put all the attention onto burnout, mental health care, engagement but there is no intention behind it. No driving force, no cultural change. A couple of posters, the offer of a course, a week of awareness raising. A tick box exercise

For many years I have been drawn to the work of Lynne McTaggart, and during a recent conversation, her book The Field (2001) yet again became my go-to way of explaining intention and the larger forces at work in a simplified way to a client.

Human thoughts, intentions and emotions influence our physical reality and connect us. In the workplace, if you have leadership that consistently communicates support, builds trust and engagement employees feel valued and absenteeism is reduced. Turnover is incremental. Engagement is high, Workplace burnout is almost non-existent

June has a way of changing our pace and our mood. With the longer days, lighter evenings and some sun (fingers crossed!!☀️🌞 ) these all act as natural reminders that things don’t need to feel so heavy.

It is also the calendar midyear point. The month when I take stock, think deeply and try and identify the tasks that are quietly draining my time and attention and try to put this right.

I want to share this tip with you. Over the next month, allow yourself to quietly identify up to 6 things that aren’t serving you. Think about if you could delegate this task, stop it or change it. Streamline where you can.

The benefit is not just on how productive you can be, but on your mental load and headspace. Business owners, CEOs and leaders hold a lot on their shoulders, make June a time to lighten the load.

When I work with clients I have a wide range of ways to free them from their problems. Recently I used the Hidden Story method.

Have you noticed how our minds make sense of the world through stories?

That is why they are so powerful. That is why we watch movies and Netflix. We can't get enough of stories.

Your mind makes sense of your life in stories too and sometimes this story can be keeping you from moving forward in your life.

I was giving treatment to a Financial Advisor who had Impostor Syndrome. She felt like a fake whenever she was with her colleagues and she didn't know why.

During her treatment I identified that she was living within a story that her mind had created a long time ago. She had no idea consciously that this was happening but it was making her feel inferior and powerless.

This client had grown up without much money and often wore clothes from charity shops. So now as an adult she couldn't spend £300-400 on a suit because it felt wrong. But her colleagues all wore expensive clothes and it was knocking her confidence.

Her story was “Junkshop Jenny”.

I dismantled her story psychologically using the Life Retuning Method®️ and her mind no longer identified with the need to buy second hand clothes.

Don’t we all like to surround ourselves with people who are ‘on our wavelength’?

Because it just feels right somehow, things around us align, we feel more positive. In business, this is where progress and success happens.

But what happens when we end up surrounded by people who don’t serve us, who bring down the mood, destroy the energy and zap the joy.

In The Ripple Effect: Emotional Contagion and Its Influence on Group Behaviour (2002) , Sigal Barsade studied the effect one person can have on the attitude, mood and behaviour of others, particularly in a work environment. Barsade understood the importance of team orientation, spirit and dynamics.

The client case study this week is an example of how early childhood trauma can manifest many years later.

I was working with a Finance Director. This person was working for 2 companies - as if his role in one company wasn’t pressure enough!

He openly admitted he had a ‘hot temper’ and trust issues. This was affecting his ability to trust his teams to not only get the job done, but get the job done right.

This client was constantly feeling on edge, constantly waiting for someone to make a mistake, over-analysing every piece of work. He was exhausted but unable to sleep. A permanent knot in his stomach made him feel sluggish.

Through a bespoke treatment programme using the Life Retuning Method®️, I identified quickly the childhood trauma that was the underlying cause. This trauma was affecting his ability to trust others. It also uncovered the underlying reason for his anger issues - insecurity.

The treatment programme removed the root cause, opened up avenues to allow him to release his anxiety, sleep better and gain energy. He is also much less ‘hot tempered’ now.
