As temperatures rise, so do the risks associated with working outdoors. Employers have a legal duty to assess and manage the hazards that hot weather can present to their workforce.

Key risks to consider include:

🌡️ Heat Stress – Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and reduced concentration, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

🕶️ UV Exposure – Long-term exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn, eye damage, and significantly increase the risk of skin cancer.

Simple control measures can make a real difference:

✅ Provide access to drinking water.
✅ Schedule regular rest breaks in shaded or cool areas.
✅ Encourage the use of suitable PPE, including hats and UV-protective clothing.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see a project come to life, especially one as thoughtfully designed as Roseland Park and Crematorium.

From the striking architecture and peaceful chapel to the beautifully landscaped gardens and welcoming tea room, every detail has been carefully considered to create a place of comfort, reflection and remembrance.

While our work isn’t always visible in the finished photographs, we’re proud to have played our part behind the scenes. Throughout the construction, Refocus Safety Ltd provided ongoing Health & Safety support, carrying out regular site inspections and working alongside the project team to help ensure the site remained safe for everyone involved.

Projects like this remind us that successful construction isn’t just about the finished building—it’s about protecting the people who make it possible.

Silica dust remains one of the biggest health risks facing the construction industry today.

With HSE increasing its focus on silica dust management and worker health surveillance, now is the time for contractors and employers to review their controls:

✔ Eliminate or reduce dust generation where possible
✔ Use water suppression and on-tool extraction systems
✔ Provide suitable RPE and ensure face-fit testing
✔ Implement health surveillance where required
✔ Train workers to recognise the risks and controls
