From make-up artist to artist, collector, television personality and one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave's journey touched millions of people and left an indelible mark on British culture.

Today's auction is more than the sale of a collection. It's an opportunity to reflect on the memories, stories and adventures that defined a life lived with humour, generosity and passion.

Curated with the help of his wife, Lili, the collection offers a fascinating glimpse into Dave’s extraordinary journey, from his creative career and love of art and antiques to the warmth, enthusiasm and spirit that endeared him to so many. Join us in celebrating Dave’s legacy on 8 September, what would have been his 69th birthday. He is greatly missed, but fondly remembered.

Behind every television programme, every book and every adventure was a friendship that brought joy to millions.

As we've explored Dave's collection, we've discovered countless candid photographs of Dave and Si doing what they did best: laughing, travelling, cooking and embracing every adventure that came their way.

These moments remind us that whilst the Hairy Bikers became a national institution, at the heart of it all were two friends having a genuinely brilliant time together.

It's been a privilege for everyone at Special Auction Services to spend time with this collection and gain a small glimpse into the life, humour and personality of a man who meant so much to so many.

As we prepare for auction day, we're filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share Dave's story and celebrate a legacy that continues to bring smiles to people's faces.

Among Dave Myers' personal papers was a poem written during his time at Goldsmiths.

Beginning with the lines, "I am a gnome, by the name of Mumble...", it offers a playful glimpse into the creative mind that existed long before television fame.

Full of humour, imagination and character, the poem feels unmistakably Dave. An unexpected discovery amongst his portfolio and a reminder that creativity ran through every chapter of his life.

Perhaps most intriguingly of all, the poem ends abruptly, leaving the reader to wonder where Mumble's story might have gone next.

Some stories never truly finish. They simply spark the imagination 💙

Few items are more closely associated with Dave Myers than his waistcoats.

They accompanied him through countless adventures, television appearances and treasured moments, becoming part of the warm, familiar presence that audiences welcomed into their homes.

Today, these iconic pieces tell another chapter of Dave's story. 100% of the hammer price from the sale of Dave's waistcoats (lots 236-238) will be donated to the NSPCC/Childline charity, helping support children and young people when they need it most.

A fitting tribute to a man who brought so much joy to so many 💙
