Are your pans not working properly on your induction hob? You’re not alone! One of the most common issues I see as an appliance engineer is cookware that looks fine — but just won’t work with induction.

Here’s a quick guide to which pans are perfect 🔥… and which to avoid ❌.

✅ Best Pans for Induction Hobs

These work efficiently, heat evenly, and are fully induction-compatible:

🟢 Cast Iron
✔ Excellent heat retention
✔ Fully magnetic
❗Heavy – avoid dragging on glass

🟢 Stainless Steel (with magnetic base)
✔ Durable and long-lasting
✔ Easy to clean
❗Make sure it has a magnetic core — not all stainless is suitable

🟢 Enamel-Coated Steel or Iron
✔ Induction-ready
✔ Attractive design (great for display & cooking)
❗Check base is flat

🟢 Multilayer/Clad Cookware
✔ Often made with layers of stainless + aluminium + magnetic steel
✔ Heats evenly, performs brilliantly

⚠️ Pans That *Might* Work (With Caution)

🟡 Some Aluminium Pans (with induction base)
✔ Must have a magnetic plate added to the bottom
❗Otherwise, pure aluminium doesn’t work

🟡 Copper Pans (with induction-compatible base)
✔ Rare – and expensive
❗Most copper pans won’t work unless labelled “induction safe”

❌ Worst Pans for Induction – Avoid These

These simply won’t work unless they have a magnetic base:

🔴 Plain Aluminium or Copper
✘ No magnetic properties
✘ Hob will not detect them
✘ You’ll often see an error code (E0 or similar)

🔴 Glass or Ceramic Cookware
✘ Not induction-compatible at all
✘ May even cause scratching

🔴 Very Small Pans or Woks
✘ Some induction zones won’t detect them
✘ Always check minimum pan size in your manual

🧲 Quick Tip

Use a fridge magnet on the base of the pan.
➡️ If it sticks firmly, it’s likely induction compatible!

Induction hobs are brilliant – fast, efficient, and modern. But like all appliances, they can develop faults. As a professional domestic appliance engineer, I’ve seen the most common hob issues across the Northeast — and I’m here to help you fix them fast.

🔌 1. Hob Not Powering On

✅ Check your fuse box or circuit breaker
✅ Look for error codes
❗ May need internal repair (power board failure is common)

🔐 2. Child Lock Activated

Display shows 🔒 or “L”
👉 Check you user manual to see how the lock is activated/deactivated
Clean the panel – moisture can lock the controls

🍳 3. Pan Not Detected

Is the pan magnetic? (Use a fridge magnet to check)
Too small or off-centre = no heat
Clean both hob and pan bottom

⚠️ 4. Flashing Error Codes

Although these differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, there are some more common ones. Here’s what they usually mean:

E0 / E2 – No pan or overheating
E3 / E5 – Voltage or wiring issue
E9 – Internal fault (sensor or board)

🌀 5. Noises: Buzzing or Clicking?

Some buzzing is normal
Thin or low-quality pans = more noise
Strange sounds? ⚠️ Could be loose components inside

Light scratches? Use hob polish

🍝 Plates coming out greasy or covered in bits?
🔧 Could be: Clogged spray arms, dirty filters, or a failing circulation pump.

3️⃣ Dishwasher Leaking Water

💦 Noticed puddles under or around your machine?
🔧 Check the door seal, hoses, or if it’s overfilling due to a fault.

4️⃣ Not Filling with Water

🛑 Dishwasher sounds like it's trying but doesn’t fill?
🔧 Possible inlet valve failure, aqua stop failure, flow meter failure or low water pressure.

5️⃣ Dishwasher Won’t Start

😤 Nothing happens when you press the buttons?
