If you have ever wonderded what happens to the ash from burn waste this picture shows it after its
been wetted with the liquid from a landfil (called leachate) and garage forecourt water and it is then dumped onto the
Wingmoor Farm hazardous landfill. Locals explained the road is just over the hedge, with houses about 500m across the fields — a major housing development. The
operators and the EA say the clouds are "just" steam but locals say
"this is nonsense as you can see. There is steam, caused by the lime reacting
with the water, but there are obviously particles... too."

Newcastle City Council has decided to extend the interium period, suspend its procurement for a long term residual waste solution, and look to incinerate its waste in Teesside up to 2016.
While their MBT is undergoing work to get it to increase the amount of organic waste removed to meet the agreed targets, it is sending this also to Teesside.

We've set up a new discussion on refund for bottles on the discussion board as CPRE have just published new research that they say clearly demonstrates a drinks container
deposit refund scheme (DRS, covering glass bottles, plastic bottles and
cans) would cost little to set up, and would generate revenue to support
most of its own running costs. Please let us know what you think.

Keep up-to-date with our campaigns, new publication launches and responses to Government initiatives.

BAN Waste carried out a year long trial with 6 different wormeries, supporting the new hosts and gathering their experiences. All hosts and interested people then met at a Worm Summit in June 2009.
The results were then pulled together into a A5 pamphlet which opened to a A4 poster for wider dissemination.

As you may know, Defra is reviewing waste policy and delivery in England and we are keen to hear about and discuss
your views. The Review will look at all
aspects of waste policy and delivery in England. Its main aim will be
to ensure that we are taking the right steps towards creating a
‘zerowaste’ economy, where resources are fully valued, and nothing
of value gets thrown away.
