The UK-India trade deal is live. Most North East businesses still aren't using it.

Since 15 July, India's average tariff on UK goods has dropped from 15% to 3%. Whisky halved. Automotive down from over 100% to 10% under quota. And for the first time, there's a dedicated chapter built for small and medium businesses, not just multinationals.

As Honorary Consul General Meenu Malhotra DL put it at our recent trade briefing: "It no longer is the market for giants."

The UK–India trade deal is live. Most businesses still cannot use it.

Since 15 July, India has cut tariffs on 90% of UK goods, whisky down from 150% to 40%, cars from 100% to 10%. But the savings are not automatic. You must complete a one-time HMRC origin registration first.
That single step is the difference between quoting India at 3% and 15%.
