Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for the Ryton Masonic Lodge investigation on Saturday night. What a night it was! Loads of activity, great energy, and plenty of laughs along the way.

As we mentioned at the start, the night really comes to life when everyone gets involved… and you absolutely smashed it. Full participation from start to finish!

We experienced unexplained knocks, mumbled voices coming from empty corridors, one person being scratched, some brilliant Estes Method results, and even the clear feeling of footsteps moving around a room.

Thanks again from all of us. We had an amazing time and hope to see you all again very soon! 👻

A little Christmas haunting history…
Did you know that Christmas has long been linked with ghost stories? In Victorian times, it was traditional to gather around the fire on Christmas Eve and tell tales of spirits and the supernatural. Even Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol helped cement the idea that the veil between worlds feels thinner at this time of year… perhaps why Christmas nights are said to be especially active 👀✨

Tucked away in the quiet woodland near the village of Hartburn lies one of Northumberland’s most unusual and enchanting little secrets — Hartburn Grotto.

This atmospheric sandstone cave was transformed in the 1760s by Dr. John Sharpe, the local vicar, who carved it into a unique riverside retreat. What was once a natural cave became a miniature folly complete with a circular stone chamber, a fireplace, and even a tunnel leading down to the river so bathers could slip in privately!

Above the entrance you’ll spot two empty carved niches that once held statues (traditionally said to be Adam and Eve). The whole site feels like something from a forgotten storybook — part hermit’s hideaway, part eccentric garden feature.

Nearby, the deep pool known as The Baker’s Chest has its own tale: a baker hiding his treasures during troubled times, only for the river to swallow both him and his riches. On quiet evenings, some locals still insist they hear the sound of coins shifting beneath the water.

The grotto sits in Hartburn Glebe, a beautiful stretch of ancient woodland filled with wildlife, wildflowers, and plenty of folklore!

Lumley Castle, built in the 14th century is said to be haunted by a number of paranormal entities. Lady Lily of Lumley, sighted by guests who stay at the castle and visitors have seen her wandering the corridors or appearing in their rooms. The story goes that Lily was murdered by priests who threw her down a well for refusing Catholicism. Her spirit has even been seen by famous cricketer Sourav Ganguly. Other spooky activity includes the mischievous ghost "Black Jack" and people hearing disembodied screams. Not only the castle but the grounds themselves are said to be haunted with many visitors leaving with a tale or two.
