PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUCEMENT 📢
⚠️PLEASE CHECK FOR EVIDENCE OF BARN OWLS BEFORE MOVING YOUR BALES⚠️

A message to all farmers and land managers:
Please be extra careful when moving any bales this summer!

So far, we are finding 2026 to be a bumper year for Barn Owls... which is fantastic news!
However, we are also hearing more occurrences of them being discovered (often once it's too late) using the cosy, dark cavities between stored straw and silage to nest.

Barn Owls are legally protected against disturbance whilst nesting, so moving those bales isn't great news for either the farmer or the owls!

So... if you are planning to move bales around in the coming weeks, please take a moment first to look for evidence of Barn Owls in the building. Here are a few things to look for:
• If a Barn Owl flushes from the building on arrival
• Thumb-sized black pellets
• Listen for a hissing/rasping sound

If you have Barn Owls nesting in your bales, please consider installing a nestbox this autumn 🙏

A customer and now good friend popped over from West Yorkshire for a visit and lunch, and gave me a lovely gift of a book in a presentation cover of Deyrolle Cabinet of Curiosities in Paris. You get to meet such nice people in the world of taxidermy. Thank you.

Couldn't get a form for this one a few years ago now, so sculpted-up a head with the skull and woodwool, covered in clay and made a plaster cast, then made a manakin out of PVA.
