This hands-on role will involve working with residents, schools, businesses and waste crews to improve recycling, reduce contamination and support new environmental initiatives.

♻️ New food waste caddies arriving soon!

From early April 2026, we’ll begin delivering your new food waste caddies to households across South Derbyshire, ahead of the launch of our new weekly food waste collections starting 1 June 2026.

The new service forms part of the Government’s Simpler Recycling Reforms and will make it easier for everyone to recycle food waste separately each week.

A new national initiative starting this spring👌

🍏 From 1 June 2026, we will be carrying out weekly food waste collections in South Derbyshire.

🏟️ The UK generates approximately 9.5–9.6 million tonnes of food waste each year, enough to fill Wembley Stadium around eight times over!

Simpler Recycling Reforms have been introduced by the Government to make recycling easier and more consistent, allowing people to recycle the same materials across England.
As a result, food waste collections will be mandatory for all councils from Spring 2026.

What does this mean for us in South Derbyshire?
✅ Instead of putting your food waste inside your garden bin, there will be a separate caddy provided to you
✅ Counter-top caddies will also be provided
✅ Food waste will be collected weekly and sent for recycling/composting
✅ We will begin the delivery of food waste caddies to all households in April.

ℹ️ More information will be provided in the coming weeks on what you can recycle in food waste caddies.

⛓️‍💥Have a broken item you love at home or something that just doesn't work anymore?

Don't bin it - bring it along to the Repair Cafe happening at Rosliston Forestry Centre this Saturday, 18th October 2025 11am- 2pm.

♻️Repair, reuse, recycle.

The Repair cafe, run by a team of volunteers from Circularity.org can help to fix ornaments, small electricals, toys, furniture and clocks.

So come along with your broken things and save a few pennies and even better, the environment. Donations towards repairs greatly appreciated.

🪛Good at fixing things? Come along and chat to the repair cafe team and see if you can led a hand as a volunteer.

⚡Also free impartial energy advice from Marches Energy Agency

Bring the whole family as we have lots of science fun with Environmental Education Project at Rosliston Forestry Centre plus Rosliston Astronomy Group and ARD Birds of Prey putting on activities for the whole family
