Illness mid-holiday (the question nobody asks)

Another uncomfortable question:
What happens if your pet carer becomes ill during your holiday?

Do they have a backup plan?

Do they have a professional network?

Is there a documented process?

Or does your pet’s care become “whoever can help” while you’re hundreds of miles away?

This isn’t rare. It’s real life. And it’s why pet care can’t be treated like a casual favour — it’s a responsibility.

The cancellation nightmare

Here’s a scenario I see far too often:

You’ve booked your holiday. You’ve paid deposits. You’ve planned everything.
Then days before you travel… your pet carer cancels.

And suddenly you’re scrambling — stressed, panicked, and forced into last-minute choices you never wanted to make.

This is exactly why standards matter. Professional care should include reliability, clear terms, and a real plan for emergencies — not just “hopefully it’ll be fine.”

Pets deserve more than hope. They deserve protection.

After a few changes over the next few months, I’m going to be opening up a small number of dates for home boarding.

A meet & greet will need to be carried out over the weekend of 26th September, which then gives me plenty of time to get to know you and build a genuine relationship with your dog before their stay-something not many services take the time to do.

Boarding dates available:
Tuesday 1st December – Tuesday 15th December

I also have availability for solo dog walks and pet/animal visits.

“I love animals” vs what we tolerate

Lots of people say they love animals. But our choices doesn’t always match our words.

When it comes to pet care, too many still go with the cheapest option — because it feels comforting to believe:
“Don’t worry, a sweet lady will look after him/her for £25 a night.”

But love isn’t a feeling. Love is protection. Love is asking questions. Love is expecting standards.

If we truly love animals, we have to stop accepting “cheap and cheerful” as good enough — because the risk is paid by the pet, not the owner.

‼️The signature shock‼️

I’m genuinely flabbergasted that my petition to improve pet care standards is still sitting at under 1,500 signatures.

We’re a nation that says “we’re all animal lovers.” I hear it all the time — “I’d rather animals than people.”

So why, when it comes to the care our pets receive, are so many people still silent?

This isn’t about drama. It’s about welfare, safety, and accountability — because your pet can’t tell you what happened when you weren’t there.

People say, “My dog is my baby.”

“My cat is my world.”

“They’re family.”

Okay. Then act like it.

Because family deserves more than being handed over to someone who’s:
unlicensed

unregulated

untraceable

and treating pet care like a casual cash-in-hand side hustle

That’s not “a dog lover”.

That’s a risk.
