๐ Lot 140: Rare Warham Guild Altar Frontal Cloth (1937 Coronation "Crown Brocatelle")
This impressive ecclesiastical altar frontal was tailored using the official "Crown Brocatelle" fabric specially created for the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey on 12th May 1937.
Key Details:
* Historic Textile: Woven in striking blue and gold, featuring intricate crowns, Tudor roses, heraldic lilies, and scrolling oak-leaf motifs.
* Maker's Mark: Crafted by The Warham Guild Ltd., Church House, London SW1, retaining its original maker's label.
* Dimensions: Approx. 230cm wide x 91cm deep, complete with a plain woven upper section and a blue and cream fringed lower edge.
* Rarity: Sections of this coronation cloth were dispersed to select churches following the 1937 ceremonyโa much smaller section previously realised ยฃ120 at Christie's in London.
