❤️ A lovely message from a client's daughter

We recently received this lovely message from the daughter of someone we've had the pleasure of supporting over the past couple of years: “Just wanted to say thank you to all your workers who helped her (and me!) by providing this service over the past couple of years, it’s been much appreciated by us all.”

Our care visits included companionship, support with shopping and personal care - helping her to remain independent at home while also providing some reassurance and support for her family.

It's always so lovely to hear that our care has made a difference, not just to the person we support, but to those around them too. ❤️

As circumstances change, people's care needs can change too, and sometimes a different type of support or care setting becomes the right choice.

We're incredibly grateful to this family for trusting us to be part of their journey over the past couple of years, and we wish them all the very best for the next chapter. 🩷

If you or a loved one are considering care at home, we're always happy to have an informal, no-obligation chat about how we might be able to help.

Some really helpful and practical tips here from Dementia UK. ❤️

One thing we always encourage at Support Me at Home is to meet the person where they are, rather than trying to bring them back to where we think they should be.

For someone living with dementia, correcting them or repeatedly reminding them of something can sometimes cause unnecessary distress. Patience, reassurance and understanding can make such a difference.

Every person living with dementia is different, but taking the time to understand their world is such an important part of providing good care. 🩷

If you or someone you love is living with dementia and you're considering some extra support at home, we're always happy to have an informal chat about how we might be able to help. There’s no pressure or obligation, sometimes it’s just helpful to know what support is available.

💙 What does a home carer actually do? 💙

The answer is probably more than you think!

Every person we support is different, which means every visit is different too.

Our carers may be helping someone to get ready for the day, supporting with medication, preparing a meal, doing some shopping, helping around the home, or simply sitting down for a chat and some company.

They also get to know the people they support. They notice when something has changed, offer reassurance on difficult days and encourage people to do as much as they can for themselves.

Good home care isn't about taking over.

It's about providing the right support to help people stay safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes.

👉 Could you or someone you know benefit from a little extra support at home?

💙 Sometimes it's the small changes that matter most 💙

When you see someone regularly, you get to know what's normal for them.

A change in appetite, increased confusion, unusual tiredness, reduced mobility or simply noticing that someone doesn't seem quite themselves can all be signs that something isn't right.

Our carers build relationships with the people they support. They notice changes, listen to concerns and report anything worrying so that action can be taken when needed.

Home care isn't just about completing tasks. It's about knowing the person, paying attention and genuinely caring about their wellbeing.

👉 If you're worried about an older relative who is struggling at home, or feel they may benefit from regular support and a familiar face checking in on them, get in touch for a friendly chat about how we can help.

💙 Stories like this are why we love what we do 💙

One of our wonderful clients recently shared this with us after recovering from a full knee replacement:

"I highly recommend Support Me At Home. I started one year ago with four visits a day, then gradually reduced to three visits, then two. With all the team's support, care and dedication, I am finally able to be independent.

They are a brilliant team. Nothing is ever too much for them and they are always so encouraging. Louise and the office team have been supportive too and are always at the end of the phone or email. A good team all round and you meet such a mixture of lovely staff."

Helping people regain their confidence and independence is what we're here for. While not everyone no longer needs our support, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone achieve their goals and knowing we've been part of that journey.

To our amazing care team, thank you for the kindness, encouragement and dedication you show every single day. We couldn't be prouder of you. 💗

👉 If you or a loved one are recovering after surgery, illness or a hospital stay, we'd be happy to chat about how we can support you on your journey back to independence.

☀️ Looking after our clients during the heatwave ☀️

Tomorrow is expected to be the hottest day of the week, and the health and wellbeing of our clients remains our top priority.

Throughout the warmer weather, our care team will be helping clients to:

💧 Keep hydrated with regular drinks
🏡 Stay cool by closing curtains and keeping rooms ventilated where appropriate
👒 Avoid going out during the hottest part of the day unless necessary
🍓 Enjoy light meals and snacks
❤️ Monitor for any signs that someone may be struggling with the heat and report any concerns promptly

We're also reminding our wonderful carers to look after themselves by staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, taking regular drinks and looking out for one another while they're out supporting our community.

If you have an older relative, friend or neighbour, please take a few minutes to check they're keeping cool and drinking enough. A simple phone call or visit could make all the difference.

👉 Who will you be checking in on during the hot weather? Let us know in the comments.

If you or a loved one could benefit from a little extra support at home, we'd be delighted to help.

☕ Sometimes a cup of tea means so much more ☕

When people think about home care, they often think about personal care or medication support.

But for many people, one of the most valuable things we provide is companionship.

A friendly face. A conversation. A shared laugh. Someone to sit and enjoy a cup of tea with.

Loneliness can affect anyone, and regular companionship visits can help people stay connected, confident and independent in their own homes.

At Support Me at Home, we believe care is about relationships, not just tasks.

👉 If you have an older relative, friend or neighbour who could benefit from a little extra company, we'd be happy to have a chat about how we can help.
