We are proud to support CABE President Zoe Cox as she and 3 others take on a coast-to-coast bike ride on 24 - 26 April 2026 to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research and Dementia UK.

This challenge is deeply personal. Zoe is riding in memory of her nanna, who lived with dementia for several years before sadly passing away 12 months ago, and in memory of her husband's Aunt, who died following an aggressive brain tumour. It is also undertaken with thought for Richard Flynn, CABE’s Immediate Past President, who tragically lost his son, Brian, to a brain tumour, a powerful reminder that these conditions affect far too many families, including those within our professional community.

By pushing themselves to their physical limits, Zoe and the team hope to raise as much money as possible to support life-changing services and vital research, helping ease suffering for families now and in the future.

If you can, please support the ride and donate. Every contribution helps: https://www.justgiving.com/team/cabe-presidential-coast-to-coast-bike-ride-team?utm_medium=TE&utm_source=CL

We all hit mental blocks when studying. Staying focused, managing time, or just trying to remember everything isn’t always easy. The good news is, there are ways through and things that can help when you’re struggling to think clearly:

- Try breaking big tasks into smaller chunks to make them less overwhelming.
- Eliminate distractions: put the phone away and close unnecessary tabs.
- Give yourself a dedicated and clutter free working space

Do you do any of these already? Let us know in the comments.

Hitting your protein goals isn’t just about building strength. It also plays a big role in your mental well-being.

As well as stabilising your mood and improving concentration, getting enough protein gives your brain what it needs to stay balanced, calm and focused.

Here’s how it will help you stay productive when you’ve got a lot on:

• Neurotransmitter production: Protein provides the amino acids needed to create dopamine and norepinephrine, which support motivation, focus and positive mood.

• Blood sugar balance: Stable blood sugar prevents energy crashes and ‘brain fog.’

• Sustained energy: Slow-release protein keeps you alert and reduces the mental fatigue that often builds up during the day.

We all know the right foods are important for our bodies, but our brains need fuelling just as much.

We’re halfway through October, which also means we’re halfway through ADHD Awareness Month.

According to statistics, approximately 2.5 million people in England are estimated to have ADHD, including those without a formal diagnosis. *

Of the estimated total, about 741,000 are children and young people (ages 5-24). *
Having ADHD can affect your life in so many ways, but studying can be extra difficult.
You’ll probably have a good idea of the style that works best for you, but here are some tips that might help…

- Break tasks down: Divide large assignments and projects into smaller sub-tasks to make them feel less overwhelming.

- Use time management techniques: Give the Pomodoro Technique a try, where you work and focus for 25 minutes, separated by short five minute breaks.

- Create a reward system: Motivate yourself by proming yourself a treat for completing tasks.

*based on prevalence data from NICE guidelines.

10 October marks World Mental Health Day, a reminder to us all that mental health is as vital as physical health.

This year’s theme is ‘Prioritising mental health in the workplace’. With millions spending most of their time at work, organisations have a responsibility to make wellbeing part of their culture.

For professionals in construction and the built environment, where pressures and responsibilities are high, support makes all the difference. CABE promotes open conversations and structures that support well-being.

Remember: speaking out when you feel low is never a weakness; it’s a step towards support.
