πŸ“ Talking strawberries, propagation, and the future of horticulture at GreenTech!

took to the stage for the *Next-Generation Propagation* panel, sharing insights from the EMQ+ project and discussing how TCEA/ total controlled environment agriculture can help deliver high-quality, disease-free strawberry propagules year-round. πŸš€

EMQ+ is helping to explore new approaches to strawberry propagation, supporting a more resilient and sustainable soft fruit sector while reducing reliance on imported planting material.

A huge thank you to AurΓ©lie Bovi FROM for moderating the discussion and to the fellow panellists Remco Hill () and Arnoud Witteveen (Saturn Bioponics) for sharing their expertise on the future of propagation!

We made it! πŸ’ͺ 180km later we have arrived at with a huge welcome from the RAI team.

Jim, and are feeling surprisingly energised for the week ahead, despite some sore legs.

Thank you to Oscar Davidson and the gang Billy Rodgers & Ross Lambert as well as Tom Hogan (), Daniel Miller (.ltd) and the RAI team Paul Hassink & Rik Grooteman for joining us throughout the journey 🏁

As well as a huge thank you to the gang for hosting us earlier today! As you can see their amazing facility did not disappoint for the second year running 🀩

Tonight we rest😴 But don’t forget to catch Katia tomorrow at 12pm as she speaks on a panel at the Crops/VF Stage talking about Next-Gen Propagation πŸ“

See you tomorrow πŸ‘‹

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Another , another ride! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸ’¨

Our smiling (for now πŸ˜…) team members , Jim Stevens and Keiri Winnie Swann are taking on the two-day cycle ride to GreenTech alongside fellow industry professionals before the event even begins! 🌱

Today’s peloton includes Oscar Davidson, Ross Lambert (), Daniel Miller (.ltd), with Tom Hogan () joining the group halfway after cycling solo all the way to Amsterdam! πŸš²πŸ‡³πŸ‡±πŸ‘

The miles on the road together are one of the most special parts of the journey. It’s a chance to connect, share ideas, hear about exciting projects, and catch up with friends across the industry in a way that traditional travel simply can’t replicate. πŸ€πŸ’‘

If you’re heading to GreenTech, make sure to stop by and say hello! And don’t miss Katia speaking on the Propagation Panel on Tuesday at 12pm πŸŽ€πŸ“

Good luck team, we’re cheering you on all the way! πŸ™ŒπŸš΄

πŸ“ Big news for UK strawberry production! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Did you know that around 85% of UK-grown strawberries start life as imported propagules? That’s why our EMQ+ project matters!

We're excited to announce that InnoPhyte Consulting and FlexFarming have joined the EMQ+ consortium, an Innovate UK-funded project exploring how Total Controlled Environment Agriculture (TCEA) can support the production of high-quality strawberry propagules year-round.

Bringing together researchers, technology providers, and commercial partners including: Niab , University of Reading , Berry Gardens Growers Ltd, Blaise Plants, Hugh Lowe Farms, Clock House Farm, Linton, Delta-T, Flex Farming and Innophyte Consulting.

The project is evaluating how controlled environment systems can support the production of high-health, disease-free propagules with strong cropping potential throughout the year.

This experienced consortium is helping advance knowledge that could support a more productive and resilient UK strawberry sector.

🎀 Exciting news! Katia Kouloumprouka Zacharaki will be taking the stage at GreenTech Amsterdam next week as a panelist for "Next-Generation Propagation"! 🌍

As demand for fresh, locally grown produce continues to rise, the propagation sector faces growing challenges around scalability, consistency, and seedling supply. This panel will explore how Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) technologies can help deliver high-quality planting material while reducing biological variability πŸ’‘.

Katia will be joined by moderator Dr AurΓ©lie Bovi (UK Agri-Tech Centre) and fellow panellists Arnoud Witteveen (Saturn Bioponics) and Remco Hill (Ontario Plants) for what promises to be a fascinating discussion πŸ€πŸš€.

πŸ’‘Think you aren't quite ready to apply for an ADOPT grant?

That doesn't mean you need to stop there.

The Innovate UK ADOPT Facilitator Support Grant provides funding to bring in an external facilitator who can help shape your idea, identify opportunities, and strengthen your future application before you commit to a full project.

For many businesses, it's the missing step between "we've got an idea" and "we've got a fundable project."

We have successfully delivered multiple ADOPT grants as facilitators so, if you're considering an on-farm trial or experiment and would like support exploring the next steps, take a look at the latest round below πŸ‘‡

is rapidly moving from concept to commercial reality in controlled environment agriculture.

From climate control and crop forecasting to and resource optimisation, the opportunities are significant. But alongside the excitement come important questions around hashtag , investment, data quality, workforce skills, and keeping growers firmly in control of decision-making.

In this new blog, Jim Stevens explores where AI is already making an impact in CEA, where the risks lie, and why a human-in-the-loop approach remains essential for the future of the sector.

A thoughtful read for anyone working across CEA, agri-tech, food systems, or agricultural innovation.
