You read the biggest text first, didn't you?
That's exactly what Dave Bradburn from Opus Creative Design demonstrated in his 10-minute presentation.
Most of us don't think about font sizes, spacing, contrast, colours or layout.
We just read what's put in front of us.
But good design guides us through information in the order we need to see it.
Dave took us all the way back to the printing press, explaining how many of the design terms still used today originated from the days of individual mirrored letters being arranged by hand before being pressed onto paper.
He also explained the difference between a typeface and a font (yes, they're different), why accessibility matters, and how colour, spacing and layout all influence how easily people can read and absorb information.
Whether it's a website, brochure, report or social media graphic, the way information is presented affects what people notice, what they read and ultimately what action they take.
The best design makes things easier to understand.
