This afternoon we finish excavating on Potter Hill, Norton Disney a Roman pottery kiln that antiquarian William Stukeley mentioned in 1722 when he wrote:” There is a high barrow or tumulus called Potters Hill, where they say was a Roman pottery”

There are still places on the Archaeology walk taking place on Sunday 14th June at 2pm from Hill Hilt Wood. Part of the NK Walking Festival and taking in all the local archaeological sites of Potter Hill Norton Disney including an archaeological excavation.

More of our Roman kiln emerged today in trench 1. If you come to our site open day on Saturday between 10am to 2pm, off Folly Lane Norton Disney you can see what more has been found too

We discovered the edge of our Roman pottery kiln today. So three more days to reveal its structure.

Our site open day is this coming Saturday, 13th June between 10am to 2pm. Come to Folly Lane, Norton Disney and look for the signs directing you where to go. This year’s excavation has focused on two Roman pottery kilns, but we have also discovered other features of interest too.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
