Darker mornings. Heating back on. Leaves everywhere.

Red Cat has assessed the situation.

πŸ‚ Wet leaves at the entrance, nobody has put the mat out yet
πŸ‚ The heating came back on and nobody has checked the filters since 2023
πŸ‚ Half the team are back from holiday and nobody has updated the risk assessment
πŸ‚ The clocks change soon, has anyone checked the external lighting?

Autumn is one of the busiest times for workplace incidents. Most of them are entirely preventable.

Red Cat is watching...

Egg update

You may have seen recent news about an investigation into a Salmonella outbreak. This is potentially linked to imported eggs used mainly by food service businesses like restaurants and cafes, rather than eggs sold for home use.

If you're preparing eggs at home, our guidance has not changed. Eggs which are thoroughly cooked and handled hygienically remain safe to eat. If you handle eggs or egg packaging, wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

Some people are more vulnerable to Salmonella than others. This includes young children, pregnant people, older people and people with underlying health conditions (e.g. cancer, diabetes, liver or kidney disease).

Thanks to improved safety controls in the UK egg industry, if you’re in one of these groups, you can safely eat raw or lightly cooked hen eggs, or foods containing them, if they carry the British Lion mark or are produced under the Laid in Britain assurance scheme.

When eating out, if you’re more vulnerable to Salmonella illness, make sure any eggs you eat are thoroughly cooked, as they may not be British Lion mark or Laid in Britain assured.

"Working from home means H&S law doesn't apply."

Not even close.

If your employees work from home (even occasionally) you still have a legal duty of care. Their workstation, their equipment, their wellbeing. All still your responsibility.

Out of sight doesn't mean out of scope.

Not sure what your home working duties look like? Let's chat.

Benedict's Law is now in effect, and it matters. 🐱

A law named after five-year-old Benedict Blythe, who died from an allergic reaction at school in 2021. Schools across England are now legally required to have allergy training, policies and adrenaline devices in place.
