MFK Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing energy technology start-up seeking an ambitious Financial Controller.

The business currently receives support from an external finance function. Following an initial transition period, the successful candidate will take full ownership of finance and become the company’s lead finance professional.

Working directly with the CEO, you will oversee reporting, cashflow, budgeting, audit coordination and financial controls. You will also lead the transition to an AI-enabled accounting platform and grow the internal finance team as the business develops.

We are looking for a qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant with at least five years’ experience, an entrepreneurial mindset and genuine enthusiasm for AI and automation.

Energy experience is desirable but not essential.

What an exciting project this has been!

In less than seven days, MFK Recruitment has supplied over 60 members of staff for Rock N Roll Circus in Norwich. 🎶🍻

From sourcing and screening candidates to coordinating availability, onboarding and payroll, it has been a huge team effort delivered within a very tight timeframe.

Massive credit to Tom, who has taken the lead on the project and done a brilliant job bringing everything together. 👏

We hope every member of staff has an amazing experience, and everyone attending enjoys a fantastic four days of live music and entertainment! 🎸🎉

It is great to see this festival in Norwich, and we are proud to play our part in helping make it happen.

Fancy earning some extra money while working in an incredible festival atmosphere featuring huge acts including THE KOOKS, THE STREETS, MADNESS and JAMES? 🤩🔥

We’re looking for:

🍺 Bartenders
📦 Bar backs

📍 Earlham Road, Norwich
📅 Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 August
💷 £11.00 per hour for ages 18 to 20
💷 £12.71 per hour for ages 21+
🔞 You must be aged 18 or over

⚠️ You must be available for at least 3 of the 4 festival days.

No previous festival experience is required. Bar or hospitality experience is helpful, but reliability, a positive attitude and confidence working in a busy environment are just as important! 💪

No emails.
No meetings.
No LinkedIn.

Just family time, sunshine, and making memories.

Feeling refreshed, recharged, and (almost) ready to remember all my passwords again. 😅

He’s done it.

Freddie has completed the challenge.

After predicting Spain 2-1 Belgium, he has officially unlocked the final part of the PS5.

For anyone following this ridiculous saga, after the England game, and after I had enjoyed a few beers, I told Freddie that if he got 3 World Cup scores correct, I’d buy him a PS5.

At the time, it felt like safe parenting.

He was on 0.

I was relaxed.

My wallet was moisturised, hydrated and living its best life.

Then he got Algeria v Jordan right.

Then Brazil 2-1 Japan.

Then tonight, Spain 2-1 Belgium.

The boy has absolutely mugged me off.

I can’t even be annoyed though.

It’s been a tough few weeks for the little fella and he is going to be so excited when he wakes up in the morning and finds out.

I’ve also bought him a few games and an extra controller.

The extra controller is obviously for me, because I feel it’s important to support your children’s interests.

Financially irresponsible? Yes.

Elite parenting? Also yes.

Final score:

Freddie: 3

Proud dad levels: through the roof 🎮❤️

I am starting to regret this deal.

Freddie has now got his second World Cup score prediction correct.

Brazil 2-1 Japan.

Which means he has officially earned the P and the S in PS5.

One more correct score and I’m £500 down.

He is walking around like Gary Neville with a sticker book.

I am walking around pretending this is a lovely father-son bonding moment, when in reality I’m checking whether “after a few beers” makes a verbal contract legally binding.

Well, it’s happened.

Freddie has officially got his first World Cup score prediction correct.

Algeria v Jordan.

Which means he has now earned the P in PS5.

2 more correct scores and I’m £500 down.

He is absolutely delighted.

I am pretending to be proud, while quietly reviewing the small print of a verbal contract made after a few beers.

Current score:

Freddie: 1
Dad’s wallet: nervous

Most of the World Cup games are on through the night, which means my son Freddie, can’t watch them live.

He’s been asking me for a PS5 for months.

After the England game, and after I’d consumed a few beers, I made him a deal:

If he gets 3 correct scores, I’ll buy him a PS5.

We go through the results together each morning, and so far thankfully, he’s on 0.

The deal is:
1 correct score = the P
2 correct scores = the S
3 correct scores = the 5

Which also means me being about £500 down.

So, is it bad if I ask you all to pray for me that he doesn’t get any right? 😂

I had an amazing few days off celebrating my 40th birthday.

My wife knows me far too well.

For my 40th, she bought me this card, combining two of my greatest loves in life:

Aston Villa and hunting down yellow sticker bargains in supermarkets.

Honestly, I’ve never felt so seen.

Although I do have one question…

Why has she made me look 80?

I asked for “Villa fan who loves a reduced steak”, not “retired supermarket vigilante who has been patrolling the chilled aisle since 1974”.

Still, I can’t complain. A trolley full of bargains, a Villa shirt, and a face that says I’ve just won the Champions League because I found 7p bananas.

That is basically my perfect birthday.

Here’s to 40, family, football, and never paying full price for chicken again.
