Too many questions. Too many meetings. An annoying knack for spotting problems before anyone else wants to hear about them.

Business Analysts have an image problem, and most of the grumbles are only ever overheard.

For IT leaders working with tighter budgets and no room for rework, those complaints deserve a second look. Vague briefs that drift between departments, risks that surface on launch day and stakeholders who discover too late they wanted different things all tend to compound, leaving projects over budget, late and not quite what anyone asked for.

Drawing on five real complaints heard on the job, a Business Analysts makes a tongue-in-cheek case against hiring a BA, and in doing so reveals why each gripe points to the opposite conclusion.

The risk was in the RAID log for six weeks before it became a problem.

Nobody was hiding it. It just sat there, unowned, un-dated, no mitigation next to it, the project equivalent of a smoke alarm with the battery out.

When it landed, it landed hard: a key supplier dependency nobody had chased.

The fix wasn't more process. It was one rule:

Every risk on the log gets an owner and a next review date, or it doesn't stay on the log.

No owner, no risk. Just a wish.

Your project managers are probably spending their best hours on their least valuable work.

When you engage a PM, you're not buying a human Gantt chart. You're paying for someone who can frame problems, design structures that didn't exist before and steer stakeholders towards outcomes under real constraints.

Yet much of the week still disappears into RAID logs and status admin.

AI can now populate risks, issues and decisions from meeting notes and Jira, and flag trouble early. That hands back hours every week for coaching teams and clearing blockers.

There's a talent angle too. Position PMs as creative partners rather than process enforcers, and you attract people who value outcomes over box-ticking.
