2022: we go again & give it a damn good shot continuing the good start made! 💪🏻

The thing we enjoy the most is the varied aspects of work we can deliver as a business; from the part time/ad-hoc general freelance quantity surveying for main contractors 🏗 to the help & support provided to different trade sub-contractors 👷‍♀️👷🏼collaboration with small build contractors and property developers 🤝 as well as working closely and combining services with local architectural practices on private schemes, from new builds to small extensions ✍🏻🧱 which in return has resulted in liaison with home and property owners working on some impressive projects 🏠🤩

working with a main contractor, delivering day to day QS support, alongside the site production team on a new student residential scheme in the centre of Nottingham 🏢

Demolition has been completed with groundworks now underway in preparation for the light weight steel frame at the end of the month.

The project itself will provide 69 student beds via and between 5/6 storeys; complete with ancillary facilities and a commercial unit space on the ground floor.

Pleased to be working with an up and coming main contractor within the home town!

Probably not the most exciting thing you’ll set your eyes on today 🤷‍♂️😂 but one of the most critical and important aspects of managing expectations within the industry, specifically if your a main contractor or client 👷‍♂️

📑 This is a preview of a bill of quantities we’ve neared complete for a new build residential scheme; for a main contractor looking to go out to tender for sub-contractors.

A bill of quantities otherwise known as a ‘BOQ’ are a means of breaking a project down into exact quantities, which are measured from any relevant drawings. This allows the specific works to be scoped and priced by a tendering contractor, who specialise in a certain area of works (i.e bricklaying / joinery / plastering), who are invited to insert their costs into each works item which is then summarised as a total cost for works within a trade package 📈💷

Typically, it is both common and wise to send out to 2 or 3 sub-contractors of the same trade, to allow a main contractor to perform a comparison and review of a returned tender. 📊

A BOQ can also then be used post-contract, when a project is running live, as a tool to measure value of works to date, management of variations and general monitoring of project expenditure. 🕵🏼
