Back in 2019 we designed a brand for a new architectural practice, Manning Holden Architects. The Matlock based business, set up by Anna and David Manning primarily works on residential projects within the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District National Park. Working on conservation architecture with a backdrop of beautiful countryside we thought it was only appropriate that their brand represented the location that has such an affect on the projects they design. The logo is designed to be simple, easily recognisable and invoke a feeling of construction. The logo is then married with appropriate material and colour backgrounds, like the beautiful grey Derbyshire stone that is so synonymous with the area.

Absolutely fantastic to be back in the studio today. As a flexible business we've always embraced some home working. Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been more useful than ever during the pandemic, but sometimes there's no substitute for seeing people face to face. So pleased to be back and be able to offer in-person meetings to clients that would like them (covid measures still in place obviously). We hope to see you soon.

Our local community, Lady Bay, has an event this weekend. Over 120 homes and businesses have decorated their windows and created a Covid-safe, family friendly trail around the neighbourhood in aid of charity. Obviously, we couldn’t resist! A lot of the heavy lifting was done by our friends (and landlords) at DSA Environment + Design, great collaboration guys. What a great event.

What a couple weeks. It’s been absolutely unprecedented. We’re safely working from home and luckily this hasn’t meant too many changes in working practices, one advantage of being a nimble small business.
One thing that has become particularly apparent over the last few weeks is the importance of providing clear information, both in terms of reassuring customers and ensuring a supportive and trustworthy face for businesses.
As communities begin to band together against COVID-19, we’d like to offer our support to businesses who have been affected by the pandemic. We’re offering our services for free to create information graphics for U.K. businesses to share on their social media platforms important announcements that they feel they need to make during this period of uncertainty. We’ve already offered this to our existing clients so can now consider casting the net wider.
This might be:
- Sharing any preventative measures
- Detailing limited, altered or usual services
- Informing customers of temporary closure
When your office is spread out in multiple locations and you’re trying to keep business going it can be difficult to find the resource to think about your communications. We’d like to help you to communicate in a clear, reassuring and informative way.
If this is something that your business and customers could benefit from, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss. We’re lucky to have project work ongoing so we have to prioritise fee-paying work and we are limiting this offer to U.K. businesses at the moment. If we can help we will though.

Last week was great fun. Thanks to everyone that took part and came along the the first cohosted by Dan from Simpkin Burley and Nottingham co-working and events venue Works Social in the Lace Market. January saw a poster design competition open to local creative talent and the event was set up to announce the winners and provide a space to talk about design. A lot of fun and inspiring to listen to so many different creative processes. Big thanks to everyone that took part and attended.
