Full steam ahead for Grayson Place.

We're pleased to say the plans for the new culture and leisure destination for Nuneaton will continue. We're on track to bring you a new Hampton by Hilton hotel, due to open in this summer, as well as a new cinema and community space from Really Local Group, and a new food hall and digital skills centre.

We’re thrilled to announce that structural works are complete for the new Hampton by Hilton hotel, which will be open to the public in summer 2024 at Grayson Place. To mark this milestone Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council we held a ‘topping out’ event.

The hotel will be the first to open in Nuneaton town centre and, once complete, will feature 145 rooms and flexible social spaces, cementing the vision for the scheme of a 24-hour destination.

This Hampton by Hilton will be joined by a new 5-screen cinema and events space run by Really Local Group, announced last month, as well as a food hall, retail spaces, new homes, office spaces, educational facilities and a car park.

Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council and strategic partner Queensbury are delighted to announce that the Really Local Group will be creating a major new cinema, event and community space in the heart of Nuneaton town centre at Grayson Place.

Really Local Group's aim is to put the heart back into the high street. Having worked on other massively successful projects like Peckham Levels, Ealing Project and Reading Biscuit Factory, this is their first major project outside London and the Southeast.

This new venue will be part of the second phase of the Grayson Place development which is due to open early 2025.

This new cinema and cultural space will make up a crucial part of the extensive entertainment offering coming to the 5.7 acre redevelopment on Abbey Street. Grayson Place, will be home to an all-encompassing hub of leisure, retail, and entertainment, which, as well as the cinema and event space, will have a food hall, 145-room Hampton by Hilton hotel, new workspace, and car park among other facilities.

We’ve undergone this project to bring more activities for families and individuals to the town centre, so you can have a jam-packed day and night out right at your doorstep. The heart of this project is the local community, which is why we’re excited that Really Local Group are coming to Nuneaton as they work exclusively with local designers on their project and only hire locally.

Last week we hosted an event that celebrated the 100th birthday of Larry Grayson, a beloved personality on our screens in the 70s and 80s and the namesake of our development, Grayson Place.

The event included a talk from Isla St Clair, a close friend of Larry’s and his co-host on the famous Generation Game, and the unveiling of a commemorative piece of artwork by artist David Mills. You can hear David speak about the inspiration between the artwork, sharing stories about Larry and what a kind, cheerful person he was.

Grayson Place is a new mixed-use development being built in the heart Nuneaton town centre by Nuneaton and Bedworth Council and partners Queensbury and is set to welcome a new 145-room Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2024.

Today marks what would have been Larry Grayson’s 100th birthday.

Having been fostered at a very young age by a family in Nuneaton, he lived here until his passing in 1995. In the words of his great nephew Mike Malyon, “He never missed an opportunity, on television or in chat shows, to mention the word Nuneaton”. In fact, in an interview with Janet Street Porter, Larry visited a number of locations in Nuneaton significant to him, including his old school, the place he first performed (a working man’s club on Fife Street) and one of the places he lived (52 Clifton Street).

His important legacy in Nuneaton led to the community choosing to name the new retail and leisure destination in the town centre after him. Grayson Place is a 5.7-acre mixed use development which will deliver as part of the plans a 145-room hotel, which is set to open in early 2024.

Today in Nuneaton, we’re celebrating the life and legacy of Larry, unveiling a commemorative portrait by a local artist David Miles. Stay tuned as we’ll be posting some behind-the-scenes content of the celebrations in due course.

Join us behind-the-scenes with Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough, Kris Wilson, to see how development of Grayson Place, Nuneaton’s newest leisure and retail destination, is coming along.

Phase 1 of the project is fully underway with the structure of the new Hampton by Hilton hotel nearly complete. Plans have also been approved for vibrant leisure offerings, and Cllr Wilson shows us where the new food hall, cinema and college facilities are set to be located.

Stay tuned for more development updates, as well as for details on the big celebration by the Council to commemorate the 100th birthday of the namesake of Grayson Place, the iconic Nuneaton entertainer, Larry Grayson.
