βοΈ MILITARIA & HISTORICAL COLLECTABLES AUCTION ποΈ
π A fascinating collection of military history coming up for auction!
We are pleased to present an interesting selection of militaria and historical memorabilia, featuring items associated with Lord Innes and Major-General Thomas Wynford Rees.
Born in Holyhead in 1898 and raised in Barry, Rees enjoyed a distinguished military career spanning two World Wars. During the First World War, he served under General Allenby against the Turks and was awarded the Military Cross. He was a great fighting commander, Welsh speaking and the master of many Indian dialects.
In the Second World War, he served in Burma and commanded the 19th Indian Division, famously known as the βDagger Divisionββearning Rees the nickname βDagger Rees" and to his troops 'Pocket Napolean' due to his height of 5'5" and 'Pete' because he was always with his men in the front line.
One of the defining moments of his career came in March 1945, when he entered Fort Dufferin in Mandalay as Allied forces recaptured the city from the Japanese.
A Welsh speaker with strong connections to Wales, Rees continued to serve his country and community after retiring from the Army, taking on several important public roles.
