Community voices matter 🤝

At Dalradian, we believe our proposed underground copper-gold-silver mine should do more than produce minerals—it should create opportunities that last well beyond the life of the project.

If planning approval is granted, the project will create 350 long-term jobs, support hundreds of local suppliers, and provide millions of pounds in funding for community initiatives.

Already, we’ve invested over £1.2 million into more than 650 local projects—from arts and sports clubs, to healthcare providers, schools, and environmental groups. And that’s just the start. With planning approval, we’ve committed a minimum of £4 million in additional community funding over the life of the mine.

Our project also means opportunities for local businesses. We’ve already developed a supply chain of over 500 suppliers across the region. A successful outcome would allow us to expand this even further, helping to boost growth and opportunity across multiple sectors.

Local people have highlighted the value of our proposed modern mine through statements submitted during the planning process—reflecting the positive impact the project could bring to the region.

Together, through collaboration, environmental care, and investment, we can build a future that delivers lasting benefits for generations to come.

We're proud to celebrate achieving Gold Investors in People (IIP) accreditation – an award held by just 17% of accredited organisations worldwide.

Although we officially received our Gold accreditation in September 2025, it was a pleasure to attend the awards ceremony last week and recognise this achievement alongside other organisations committed to supporting and developing their people.

This marks our second consecutive Gold accreditation, reflecting our continued commitment to creating a workplace where our employees can thrive. Thank you to our team who make Dalradian a great place to work.

Protecting the environment is central to our approach

Northern Ireland has strict environmental regulations, and our proposed mine is designed to meet — and in some areas exceed — these requirements.

As part of our planning application, we've carried out detailed environmental assessments to understand potential impacts and ensure best practice is embedded in the design. This includes a commitment to delivering net biodiversity gain.

Our environmental team, the second largest in the company, leads this work. They run a year-round monitoring programme that builds a long-term baseline understanding of local conditions and seasonal variation.

This involves continuous monitoring of air quality, dust, noise, river and groundwater levels, and water quality across approximately 100 monitoring locations, including a 30km river network. Work is carried out using independent accredited laboratories and established scientific methods.

Monitoring will continue throughout the life of the mine and into closure and rehabilitation.

Mining helps build Sustainable Communities 🤝

Modern mining may not be all that common in Co. Tyrone, but the county has a distinguished background in quarrying and small-scale mining. Indeed, many of the county’s major employers provide machinery and equipment for mining and quarrying around the world.

As well as being environmentally responsible, 21st Century mining also brings opportunities to build sustainable communities. Through local partnerships, mining can invest in the physical fabric of our villages and towns – enhancing the sporting, cultural and educational bonds that bring a community together and providing jobs for young people who may otherwise move away.

Mining co-exists well alongside communities, and you don’t have to look far to find an example. Both Tara and Lisheen Mines are excellent examples.

The experience of the people of Navan over the last 40 years has been hugely positive as Tara Mine and the town have grown together. Tourism, agriculture, the environment and the wider community have been able to live in harmony with the mine, while the economic opportunity has allowed other businesses and services to grow.

With an operational life of 17 years, the mine at Lisheen also demonstrates the force for good that mining can be within a community, even after mines close. Those in the villages near the mine were able to see substantial investment in community facilities during the mine’s life, while the site continues to provide employment through the National Bio-economy Research Centre.

Tara and Lisheen demonstrate just what is possible at Curraghinalt and the lasting legacy that the project could bring to Tyrone and the island as a whole.

Ever wondered what lies beneath our feet?

Catch up with Gareth, our Geology & Exploration Manager, to explore how a childhood in Cornwall, a curiosity for minerals, and an MSc in Mineral Exploration set him on a career that has taken him outdoors, underground, and across the world — eventually leading him here to our Tyrone project.

He shares how geology brings together science, problem-solving and discovery and why responsible exploration is vital to our shared future.

Dalradian’s project will create long-term employment opportunities within our local community for decades to come, if planning approval is granted. Our goal is to ensure that the proposed underground copper-gold-silver mine delivers maximum benefit to the area— creating jobs, boosting business for local suppliers, and supporting community development. This is the lasting impact of modern mining.

By focusing on collaboration, environmental stewardship, and economic growth, Dalradian aims to create long-lasting benefits that extend beyond mining operations. Dalradian is working to ensure that its presence helps shape a brighter future for residents and businesses.

To date, we’ve invested over £1.2 million in over 650 community initiatives. Arts groups, environmental groups, healthcare providers, schools, sports teams and social clubs are among the local associations that benefitted from funding. That’s just the beginning. We have committed to further funding in the event of a successful planning outcome—a minimum of £4 million for community projects over the life of the mine.

We have also worked with many business organisations and developed a supply chain of over 500 suppliers across the region in various sectors. Following a positive planning decision, this would expand further and foster growth throughout our community.

Did you know that Electric vehicles (EVs) use up to four times more copper than traditional petrol or diesel cars? This is because copper is essential for powering electric motors, batteries, and charging systems – the core of clean transport.

As the world transitions to greener technology, the demand for copper continues to rise.

Our proposed mine could contribute to this greener future. Over its 20-year lifespan, it will produce around 15,000 tonnes of copper – enough to help manufacture approximately 240,000 EVs.

Opportunities right under our feet! 🚨 ⛏️

Our proposed underground mine will create 350 well-paid career opportunities right here in Tyrone. Hiring can begin if planning permission is received.

Following an initial ÂŁ15 million, three-year training program, we anticipate that at least 90% of our workforce will be local people. The training will start during the mine's construction phase and extend into the first year of operations.

Mining might be new to Tyrone, but the skills already here are a great fit. Experience in construction, farming, or trades can easily transfer into a career underground.

To better understand what’s ahead, we’ve updated the careers section of our website with detailed job descriptions and entry requirements for roles such as Long Hole Production Drillers, Miners, Shotcrete Operators, Haul Truck & LHD Operators, Welders and Heavy Duty Mechanics/Mechanic Helpers and more!

Take a look at the full range of future roles at Dalradian.com/future-career — and if something sparks your interest, register your details and we can get in touch when hiring begins.

From the 1600s to Today: A Golden Journey in the Sperrins

Did you know gold was first reported in the Sperrin Mountains as far back as the 17th century? Early discoveries were made in the Moyola River, just 20 miles east of our project site.

Fast forward to the 1970s, when modern mineral exploration began. By the 1980s, Ennex—the company then leading the project—had drilled over 30,000 metres of core samples (cylinders of rock that reveal where and how much mineral is present). Between 1987 and 1989, they developed 710 metres of underground tunnel, carving their way through the rock with road header drills. These machines weren’t designed for Curraghinalt’s tough rock, making it slow, challenging work - the tunnel is still in use today!

If you look closely, you can still see the difference: the older sections carry grind marks left by the road header’s teeth, while newer areas we blasted during our 2016 test mining phase have smooth walls. We were able to add almost 1 km. of new development, intersecting or following multiple veins and removing mineralized rock for testing. This work verified that proposed mining methods would work well and that the vein locations and grade were as expected, or better.

When Dalradian acquired the project in 2009, the known gold resource stood at 640,000 ounces. Thanks to years of exploration, that figure has grown almost tenfold to 6.1 million ounces of high-grade gold, making this one of the top unmined deposits in the world. Alongside gold, the deposit also contains silver, copper, and other UK critical minerals.

From riverside discoveries in the 1600s to one of today’s leading modern mining projects, the Sperrins hold remarkable opportunities beneath our feet.
