Not every hazard room needs the same level of fire door protection, but the level must match the risk behind it.

A hazard room storing flammable materials calls for a different specification than current guidance would expect for a standard FD30S door.

Current guidance indicates hazard rooms should be protected with doorset performance appropriate to the risk, typically, FD60S, unless a justified fire engineering approach supports a lower specification.

Getting this right means understanding what current standards actually require for that specific use, and being able to show the reasoning behind whatever door specification is in place.

We held our Annual General Meeting yesterday at the Hard Days Night Hotel in Liverpool, and it was brilliant to have the whole team together.

With projects up and down the country, it’s not often everyone is in the same room at once, so it was the perfect chance to catch up on everything and talk about our plans for the future.

A closed fire door buys time, not certainty, and only if the fire door is compliant and working correctly.

Once fire load behind it reaches a certain point, smoke can start finding its way around the door before the door itself fails, and that smoke ends up in the escape route people are relying on.

It's a reminder that fire doors are one part of a wider fire safety system. Detection within the room matters just as much as what the door is rated to withstand.

The next cohort of the Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Fire Safety Design and Building Risk Management starts on October 8th.

We’ve recently welcomed Abbie to the Endeavour team as she begins her Business Administration NVQ Apprenticeship with Northwest Education and Training.

The apprenticeship will give Abbie the chance to gain valuable, hands-on experience while working towards a recognised qualification. For businesses like ours, apprenticeships are an opportunity to invest in the next generation, develop future talent, and build the skills needed for the workplace, and we’re continuing to do more of this as our business grows.

We're looking forward to supporting Abbie through this next step and seeing her grow into the role.

Our recent work has had some Endeavour team members spending time in London for various meetings and site visits.

We met with Westminster Council to support the safe installation of telecommunications equipment on Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs). We also undertook additional site surveys to assess proposed new telecommunications works and identify any fire safety, building safety, and access implications associated with the installations.

The team also surveyed Bridgefield House, a retirement housing property with 20 flats built in 1968. Surveys like this are crucial in older buildings, as construction methods, materials, and layouts from decades ago often don't meet current safety standards, and residents in retirement housing can be more vulnerable in an emergency. A thorough survey helps identify where upgrades or changes are needed, so work doesn't compromise fire safety or escape routes.

Jasper joins us as a Degree Apprentice, studying at UCLAN, and will be working alongside our fire engineering team while completing his degree.

It's a great way to build a career in fire safety, learning on the job while gaining the qualifications behind it, and we’re looking forward to supporting him through the apprenticeship and watching him grow into the role.

Since January 2023, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations have required Higher-Risk Buildings over 18m existing or over 11m new to have a Secure Information Box on site.

It gives Fire and Rescue Services the building plans, evacuation strategy and system status information they need the moment they arrive.

From April 2026, the Building Safety Regulator takes on oversight of HRBs, and failure to provide or maintain a SIB is a breach of the law with real enforcement consequences.

Endeavour Group helps building owners and Responsible Persons get their SIB right, keep it current, and ensure it’s ready should it ever be required.
