Climbing a stairway to heaven?
Well, hopefully not!
But we don’t recommend DIY wasp treatments, particularly at this time of year when numbers are maxing out and wasps become increasingly aggressive.

Insect activity continues into September, with wasps becoming more aggressive and midges, mosquitoes, and horseflies particularly active during this current warm, wet weather.
This greatly increases the risk of bites and stings.
If you experience an insect bite, antihistamine tablets, topical creams, anti-itch creams and applying an ice pack can provide relief from itching.
* Seek urgent medical help or call 999 if you experience severe symptoms like breathing difficulties, wheezing, or a swollen tongue.
Concerned about the number of biting insects around your property?

What you gonna do when you can’t open the window?
Call your friends at LANDGUARD, of course! Wasp nests become a bigger problem in September as colonies reach their maximum size, their natural food cycle changes and worker wasps become irritable and defensive.
We never recommend leaving a nest untreated inside a property. Want to get yours dealt with?
Please call, text or email today 😄

Black garden ants (Lasius niger) provide vital ecological benefits that make them highly valuable allies in the environment, however they can become a pest when they invade indoor living spaces for food or when their outdoor nesting activities damage plant roots, encourage aphid infestations, or produce dramatic flying ant swarms.
If you’re spotting ants indoors, now should be a good time to gain control, whilst they’re still active.

Did someone order rain!?
It’s great to see a bit of green returning to our arid lands, but unfortunately softer ground means a return of the moles…
Moles appear on lawns after a dry period because rain softens the parched ground and encourages their primary food source - earthworms - back up toward the surface.
Moisture allows for easier tunneling too: dry soil becomes packed and hard, making it physically difficult for moles to dig. Rain turns the lawn back into soft, workable loam that allows for fast tunneling and the creation of fresh molehills
Great for moles…
Not so great for gardeners!

Want to have a go yourself!?
What are you nuts!
Attempting a DIY treatment of a very active wasp nest is highly dangerous and is therefore strongly discouraged. While DIY products may work for tiny, dormant nests in early spring, a fully established, active colony poses severe health and safety hazards.

Can you guess where they’re getting in!?
Finding a point of ingress (how rodents enter a building) is vitally important because it stops an infestation at the source, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Wow, those wasp nests are starting to get pretty big!
It’s a good idea too deal with your wasp nest in August because colony sizes are reaching their absolute peak (8-10,000 individuals) and worker wasps are becoming much more aggressive.
When the queen stops laying eggs, and the larvae no longer produce the sweet liquid that worker wasps eat, worker wasps need to fly out searching for sugar, making them a constant nuisance at picnics, bins, and barbecues.
You know, the one that just won’t leave you alone!

Want to be ahead of the game!?
Investigating and resolving potential rodent ‘points of ingress’ is a great idea at this time of year BEFORE their seasonal push to get inside as we move into the colder Autumnal months.
