Let’s talk about PR for a moment. Media coverage is one of the best ways to generate good visibility for your small business, at whatever stage you’re at – yes even (especially!) if you’re about to launch!

Getting and showcasing your publicity coverage is a social proof win, while helping you with links back to your website and social media. It doesn’t have to be a big scary task either, when I first thought about PR I immediately thought of a glossy magazine piece in Red or similar… Starting with a small newspaper, local to you, will likely get a Yes to your first tries at pitching a piece, and will help to build your confidence with each Yes!

PR does not just mean traditional printed media, either. These are a few great ways to boost your Brand’s public relations:
✨ Attend networking events to build real world contacts

✨ Attending local markets and Events days (these can be online)

✨ Creating your own Events days (these can be online)

✨ Social swaps or take-over days, with a business of the same audience type as you

✨ Pitch to be on a podcast

✨ Offer to write guest blogs

✨ Create gift Guides on Instagram and swap a feature with a fellow business

✨ Ask your Super Fans if they would like to be a Brand Partner on Instagram – so they can tag your products when they post content with items in use

Which of those PR opportunities sounds the most do-able for you?

Following on from searchable optimizations (check out my previous post!), this next list goes the extra mile to get your brand seen online.

Image Alt text ✨ can also make your images more searchable. Social media platforms are still developing visual search through alt-text at this stage, but the included information is still used to categorize your content. Get in the habit of adding alternative text descriptions to your images now, and you’ll be at the front when visual search is launched!

Instagram Shop Wishlist ✨ Shoppers on Insta enjoy a handy feature to save products to their wishlist, in addition to Saved posts. Wishlists are public by default, meaning your products can be seen by friends and family looking for gift ideas - Bonus!

Facebook Events ✨ by hosting an event you create an extra searchable title, so use that name wisely with keywords! Events can be tagged in posts using the @ for ease, and invitees receive reminder notifications too.

Facebook Groups ✨ having a Group to go with your Page on Facebook does open up additional visibility boosting options; Group names and bios are searchable, you can add Events to your Group alongside your Page Events, and share posts from Page to Group to increase its reach.

Facebook Groups Profile ✨ when you are active in any Group on Facebook, you can edit your own profile. This is what people see when they click on your profile photo or name to learn a little more about you. Make sure to optimize your Group Profile to showcase your business, include links or , and leave bread crumbing trails across Facebook.

Facebook Marketplace ✨ often thought of as a second hand store online, Marketplace is particularly useful for connecting with your local customer base and increasing clicks through to your Business profile.

Remember - you don't need to do it all at once. Try one with consistency to see if works for your audience.

🤔 Have you used any of these areas for your business?

You want to be seen on social, to introduce your brand to potential customers and re-engage current or past customers, to naturally lead them on to your sales platforms. The areas listed below are worth optimizing for keywords and search terms your customer would be using to find you, and what you sell.

Your Name ✨ The most common search for regular and repeat customers, those aware of your brand… Your social profile name. Keeping your name (handle) the same across all your socials will help your Brand to be easily recognizable and visible to your customers.

Profile Bio ✨ Your Bio on social is a key first impression, and searchable too. Ensure it’s both attention grabbing and using keywords and phrases your customer would search for.

Saved Posts ✨ Saving a post for later will both keep your brand in mind and in a quick search section for finding you again. Plus this counts as an engagement on your posts!

Notifications Panel ✨ Your followers can see you in their notifications panel, if they choose to turn this function on. This can get really noisy for the average social user, who then turns them off. Make your notifications count, give a reason for keeping these on.

Explore / Discovery ✨ your posts can appear in these areas of social, depending on how the algorithms have categorized your posts and decided they will be interesting to the viewer

Hashtags ✨ How do they work for finding your customers? Hashtags (whether on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest) can be followed if a viewer is interested to see posts with a particular hashtag in their feed, or clicked on for viewers to see posts using the same hashtag. They’re also a factor in post categorization.

Shop Search ✨ the Shop icon within Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest, your customers will be browsing through Catalogues of Brands they follow already, and those suggested for them, bonus being these are people already thinking about buying!

✨Part 2 coming tomorrow!

It sucks, feeling invisible.
It sucks the energy out of you.
It sucks the confidence out of you.
And it makes you start to doubt whether you are good enough.

When you’re out there putting your all into growing your product brand in the online space of social media and websites visibility is key. If no one can find you, see you, then they cannot buy from you…

So let’s get proactive! 💛 What can we do to find our soul customers online, the ones who will love what we make, create and offer?

This week I'll be sharing tips to help you do just this. First off, Don't Panic! Save this post for when you need a reminder, there will always be slower times, use them to plan for Peak times ✨

Another step forward for as they roll out Shopping features for Creator accounts alongside the existing Business account Shops, allowing influencers and creators with a following more options to monetise their social!

What this means for you?
More choice in how you market your brand. Opportunities to use Creator features alongside Business.

What's next? You'll soon be able to link your Shop to your personal profile if you have one! Yes that's correct, you'll be able to connect personal profiles to your Brand Shop ...

Remember to be mindful of keeping a separate space for you to unwind from work, and your family or friends boundaries of personal not being a selling space... Use it wisely when it comes!
