Being constipated can exacerbate prolapse symptoms & may also be a risk factor in developing prolapse in the first place
Add this easy massage into your day!
10 mins in the morning on waking (in bed lying down)
or
10 mins in the evening before sleep (in bed lying down)
Or both if you fancy it!
Give your body a helping hand moving things alone for easier, more complete pooping
An essential for a happier pelvic floor & less straining (which we want to avoid with prolapse & pelvic floor issues)
Also...use a squatty potty or similar, feet on a stool, knees above hips!
I love this one, it's one of my prolapse non-negotiables before I go to sleep. Consistency is key!
Have you tried this before?
Any questions just ask :)
Much love, thia xx

In the spirit of prolapse awareness month, here are some of the more 'common' symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse. This list is not exhaustive & we do all experience our bodies differently
The experience of symptoms varies considerably, some may have mild to no symptoms, or be asymptomatic, others may have more severe symptoms with a greater impact on quality of life
If you have any of these or think you may have a pelvic organ prolapse I always suggest seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist to get the lay of the land down there, so to speak
The physical symptoms are often the focus when it comes to pelvic organ prolapse, but please, if you are struggling on an emotional or mental health level, please reach out!
Do you have any of these symptoms? or have a prolapse & experience other sensations?
Please share if you feel comfortable too.. :)
Any questions, just ask :)
Much love, Thia xx

not sure what pelvic organ prolapse is or what types there are....check out the slides for a brief overview!
symptoms can vary at all grades, as a rule of thumb higher grades are usually more symptomatic, but lower grades can also experience symptoms or be asymptomatic
the experience of symptoms can depend on many things - a few examples are
- genetics
- anatomy
- pelvic floor strength, tone, coordination, endurance, tension
- other prolapses
- sensitivity or hyper-sensitivity
- muscle damage or avulsion
- nerve damage
- scar tissue
to name a few.....
please see a pelvic floor physiotherapist if you feel you might have a pelvic organ prolapse or reach out to me, there is so much we can proactively do in prolapse rehabilitation & symptom reduction! .
Any questions please just ask :)

When you are diagnosed you may receive a 'grade' for your prolapse (s)

Appointments can be confusing & overwhelming, especially if you have never heard of 'prolapse' before & it can be very easy to focus in on that 'grade'

It can be easy to worry what this grade means, can I do this with this grade? etc

But grades do not always = symptoms. A grade 3 may not know they have a prolapse, a grade 1 may be very symptomatic, it is very individual. Also providers using different systems means we may get different grades which can add to the confusion about what is going on in our v@ginas.

I chose to not be 'graded' in numbers after my initial diagnosis (well for them to share the numbers with me) - because I focused on the number & what it meant, where it meant the prolapse was & I couldn't get my mind off it.

I eventually realised it was 'HOW I FELT' that was key, if I didn't feel symptoms did it matter what 'grade' it was, if the 'grade' had changed?

I managed to move the medical terms & 'gradings' further from my mind & tuned more into my body.

Instead of seeing my body as the 'enemy' I started to listen to what it was telling me & figure out what it needed instead.

Did you find your grading helpful? or did it make you worry more?

June is Pelvic Organ Prolapse Awareness Month! 🌟

Did you know that millions of women around the world are affected by Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), yet it remains a largely silent struggle?

It feels like one of the biggest kept secrets in the Women's Health Industry...& it's time to break the silence and bring attention to pelvic organ prolapse.

WHY DOES AWARENESS MATTER?
Early Detection: Understanding the symptoms can lead to early diagnosis and more effective treatments
Support: Raising awareness helps those affected feel less alone and more supported, its not just a physical battle, its emotional & mental too...
Education: Educating others can reduce stigma and encourage women to seek help without embarrassment

Applying Knowledge: There are so many factors at play in pelvic organ prolapse & pelvic floor rehabilitation, we need to make people aware of this, so they can apply this knowledge to their own rehabilitation journey & stack the cards in their favour, take control back & improve their quality of life!

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Share Information: Spread the word by sharing this post with your friends and family, & follow along to gain more shareable knowledge

Support Organizations: Follow and support organizations dedicated to women's health and pelvic floor disorders

Encourage Conversations: Start a conversation about pelvic health and encourage women to speak openly about their experiences.

Together, we can make a difference! Let's empower women with knowledge & support to improve our pelvic floor health, mental health, & quality of life with prolapse.

Share far & wide if you can :)

My son turns 5 today! This day 5 years ago was......

a day of joy
a day of some other emotions I can't label....
the day I had waited for, the day I met my son earth side
the day I became a mother & my heart flew open
the day I experienced a long & difficult labour
the day I experienced a traumatic birth resulting in birth injuries
the day I was ignored when I said something was wrong
the day I had to ask my husband to take my son from my arms as I didn't feel right
the day I was rushed to emergency surgery about an hour after I had birthed my son because something WAS wrong...
the day a 5 day stay in hospital started
the day my birth injuries occurred
the day my core & pelvic floor injuries occurred
the day my prolapse journey started...
the day my life changed forever, for many reasons
the day my physical, mental & emotional health challenges were ignited

It's 5 years on now.....today is a day, like any other, but unlike any other
I am stronger, I have grown, I have healed, I have overcome...but I still remember
I always give myself space today, for joy, to remember, to reflect on how far I have come & to feel proud of where I am now...

I send love to all mum's out there who have experienced birth injuries, birth trauma, prolapse, I see you...

If you are at the start of your journey, or anywhere in your journey, you are not alone :)

Much love, Thia

Part 6....the last of the 'stool trapping' series!

I had so much fun making these little graphics, they just made me smile...! Prolapse issue humour I guess....scroll to see!

If you think or know you have stool trapping issues & are still struggling with symptoms despite having tried other management techniques (some suggestions have been mentioned in my previous 5 posts & in my free PDF in my profile)....then a further step that could be explored is transanal irrigation.

In the UK, (I don't know about other countries sorry) this is something explored via your local GP Doctor, usually having had some sort of referral from a pelvic floor physio (private or NHS) or other women's health professional. GP's usually have to refer out to a Colorectal specialist / Urogynecologist / Womens Health Team, to see if this is an appropriate course of action. So it's a bit of a process to get there...

There may be additional tests performed as mentioned in the slides to see exactly what is going on & if this is appropriate.

***Please don't try this with our professional guidance***

It can be game changing for management & symptoms reduction & is something to consider exploring prior to pulling the trigger on surgical intervention.

This WAS a game changer for me. Using this kind of system went a long way to giving me my quality of life back.

It sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm not. My symptoms were debilitating.
I had a complicated birth injury / prolapse situation.

Removing this stool trapping issue (pun intended) allowed for more effective rehabilitation work for my pelvic floor, more effective healing, more function...for me as a whole!!!

I am forever grateful for the Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist who LISTENED to me & advocated for me strongly with the GP to start the referral process....

Any questions, please ask :)

Part 5! Still going....I think this is the last but 1 now....

Splinting...again another proactive thing you can do to help address 'stool trapping' if you think you may be experiencing this.

I made a video (further down my feed) showing the Femmeze ®, what it looks like & how it works.

As the slides mention, it can be done with a finger or thumb (which provides tactile feedback) but can require greater flexibility...devices like the Femmeze®offer a bit more leverage!

You can also do this externally (if trying internally isn't for you), splinting the perineum with your hand (best to have some soft toilet paper / tissue between your hand & skin), applying gentle pressure upwards & backwards as you open your bowels...

Any questions just ask :)

Hey, just a few quick tips here...

I always suggest having a check with a pelvic floor physio to get the 'lay of the land' to to speak. This may be a physio, urogyecologist, gynecologist, colorectal specialist...& addressing overall digestive & bowel health.

This can take a little time sometimes as it often involves trial & error. External support can be a great thing to reach for in the mean time.

I know there are other's out there now, there weren't that many options when I used one, the V2 is the one I have personally used, others I know like the EVB too.

I think I may have 2 more posts in this series in me!!! :)

Don't forget to like, share, comment, help spread the word about prolapse & help others dealing with prolapse symptoms!

Any questions, please ask :)

Carrying on with the 'reduce stool trapping' series! Part 3...

Something you may not have thought of, but the pelvic floor needs to be able to fully relax or 'yield' to let something pass through it easily...(eg child birth)

The same goes for pooping, obviously it's a different exit, but the pelvic floor is still in control here in terms of maintaining faecal continence. So when we do want stool to pass easily & completely, we need to be able to let the pelvic floor fully yield.

Something which is harder to achieve if tension is present in the pelvic floor muscles as this can prevent them being able to do this effectively.

This is one to think about addressing if you are experiencing stool trapping in addition too the other tips in the series!

Any questions, just ask :)

Please feel free to share your stories if you feel comfortable, I know it's not a seductive topic, but we need to break the taboo's surrounding women's health.

Prolapse & the physical symptoms faced are not something to be ashamed of, 'prolapse' is not a dirty word.

The only way we can bring this into the light & help others, is to talk about it.

Let's speak about these issues & share tips that can alter someones quality of life with prolapse!

Please like, share, save :)

much love, thia xx

I have used one for years & would never go back to not using one.

They are inexpensive & can be bought online, Amazon type places etc.

Stool Trapping (incomplete bowel movements when stool remains trapped in the re**um after your toilet trip) is a BIG contributor to prolapse symptoms.

Trapped stool hardens in the re**um as the day goes on as water is drawn out by the gut, this can create a digging in feeling into the vaginal cavity & symptoms or
heaviness & pressure.

Less room because stool is trapped, also means you may also feel your other prolapses more as there is less space for them.

It's extra weight on the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles may also get tired & ache if they have extra weight pressing down on them during the day.

The bio mechanics here with a more 'natural' pooping position as shown in the slides, can offer more complete bowel movements! Phew!

Don't forget to open mouth exhale or 'moo' or 'ahhh' as you go, this helps the pelvic floor relax...

For anyone with prolapse this really is an ESSENTIAL in my eyes. Such a simple proactive thing you can implement very quickly & could give you a win & a
reduction in symptoms.

Any questions, just ask :)

Following up...here is part 1 : )

Not quite sure how many parts there will be just yet!

Just a few easy tips here, not too technical...positioning & technique can make a big difference, as can what goes in (as what goes in must come out!!)

Have you thought about these points before? Feel free to share your experiences if you feel comfortable.

Any questions, just ask!

Pls like & share to help the message reach more of the prolapse community :)

much love, thia xx
