Gardener’s Cottage | Jericho, Oxford
We wanted to end the year by sharing this small, but meaningful project that was completed recently for Worcester College. This was an interesting and fast paced project completed in 4 months from July - October.
This project elevates the standard of accommodation provided for college fellows and post-graduates. The building was previously occupied by the College Gardener, and even has a banana tree in the garden, this connection inspired the choice of fabrics and artwork.
We selected out of copyright artwork from the college archive to animate the space, choosing imagery that featured the garden and architectural views of the college some iconic, some not well-known. Botanical prints, wallpaper and fabrics were used to allude to the gardening provenance of the building and connection the house with its own back garden.
We made the budget and compact space work hard using both standards and bespoke elements to maximize every inch. A neutral colour palette of greens brings the outside and in and allows the artwork to come to a the fore.
It was a pleasure to work alongside the college to deliver this project and we are grateful to the archivist who helped us source the artwork. Also special mention to the contractor team at inside out who delivered this with a tight time pressure and who supported us with soft furnishings.
