Fought for support all week
and still got nowhere

Sat in meetings
explained everything
pushed, chased, followed up…

and walked away feeling unheard
again

And now you’re home
still holding everything together
still needed by your child
still trying to stay calm

Of course your nervous system is exhausted

This isn’t just parenting
this is constant advocacy on top of it

So if you’re feeling on edge, snappy, or completely drained tonight…
there’s a reason

You’re carrying more than most people can see

You shouldn’t have to do this alone ❤️

When your child is overwhelmed, the words don’t come.

Not because they don’t know.
Not because they won’t tell you.
But because their brain can’t access language in that moment.

And this is where it gets hard…
because the more we ask, the more pressure we add.

More questions
More guessing
More frustration - for both of you

This is why we stopped relying on speech in those moments and started using visual ways to communicate instead.

Not as a “last resort”
but as a way to keep connection when words disappear

If you’ve ever stood there thinking
“why won’t they just tell me…”
this is why ❤️

When your child is overwhelmed, the words don’t come.

Not because they don’t know.
Not because they won’t tell you.
But because their brain can’t access language in that moment.

A lot of late diagnosed autistic women struggle to rest.

Not because we don’t need it…
but because stopping feels uncomfortable.

Transitions aren’t just hard for our kids — they can be hard for us too.

Going from “doing” to “resting” can trigger guilt, anxiety, or that feeling that we should be doing more.

But rest isn’t something you have to earn

19/03/2026

Autistic and ADHD children often struggle with transitions, unpredictability and sensory overload.

When things feel more predictable, their body can start to feel safer. That’s why visual supports can be so powerful in reducing meltdowns.

Your child isn’t overreacting. Their body feels unsafe.

Sometimes the hardest thing as a SEND parent is knowing how hard your child is trying when other people can’t see it.

Many autistic and ADHD kids are putting huge effort into navigating transitions, sensory overload and uncertainty.

Predictability and visual supports can reduce some of that invisible load.

You’re not lazy or failing.
You’re protecting regulation.

Happy Mother’s Day to the SEND mums.

The ones filling in forms, chasing support, fighting systems, learning everything they can to help their child.

The ones holding it all together even when they’re exhausted.

You’re doing more than most people will ever see.

The guilt after a meltdown can be brutal.

You replay the moment.
The things you said.
The way everyone was feeling.

But most SEND parents are parenting while completely overstimulated and exhausted themselves.

You’re not failing.

Sometimes what helps the most isn’t trying harder - it’s making things more predictable for everyone.

14/03/2026

If behaviour charts have never worked for your autistic or ADHD child… you’re not alone.

Most behaviour systems are designed for children who can regulate, switch tasks, and handle unpredictability easily.

But many neurodivergent kids struggle with transitions, sensory overload, and emotional regulation.

So the issue isn’t motivation.

It’s support.

Sometimes what actually helps is predictability and visual routines instead of rewards and consequences.
