The future of shared TTOs is an issue where we'd like to hear voice, and on June 4th, at KEUK in Birmingham, we're running a workshop to enable your contribution:

“The future of shared TTOs: Next steps and actions” – chaired by our own Alexandra Bush (Oxentia), with input from Andreea Iacoban and Bruno Reynolds, Knowledge Exchange UK, Wellspring, and more. During a six month period Research England funded 13 pilot projects in the CCF-RED Shared TTO services call. We’ve gathered insights, seen what works in practice, what doesn’t, and now we’re asking: what’s next?

That’s where you come in.

This workshop is designed to share findings and shape the roadmap ahead. If you work in knowledge exchange, research commercialisation, or policy, your experience is essential to this conversation:

✅ Help refine the models
✅ Share what your institution needs
✅ Influence a white paper that could set the direction for KE collaboration

After all, this is just the pilot, the real work starts now!

When the right people come together, change happens.

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting an exclusive Pro Vice-Chancellor roundtable discussion, where 26 institutions from across the UK were represented.

Our keynote speaker Professor Dame Jessica Corner helped fuel invaluable discussions into strategies aimed at strengthening the innovation and Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) missions of UK universities.

Four key themes which will form a white paper included:

🔵 Funding sustainability in Knowledge Exchange
🔵 Strengthening the R&D ecosystem
🔵 Place-based innovation and regional impact
🔵 Commercialisation and entrepreneurial support

What stood out was how productive the event was when PVCs could engage directly with each other without any distractions to discuss the future of higher education openly and honestly. At Oxentia, we’re here to make connections that matter.

Last week, our Managing Consultants Dr Irene Dal Poz and Dr Fabio Bianchi were in Manila, Philippines, as part of an ISPF-funded British Council project to support the Philippine’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST Philippines) in developing a harmonised policy framework for Technology Transfer in the country.

This included presentation of the draft framework to DOST’s Executive Committee on Tuesday, before running a national consultative conference on Thursday, where for the first time in the Philippine’s history, over 200 professionals from the private and public sector gathered to input their concerns and priorities for the new Policy Framework.

What does climate change have to do with health? Quite a lot, actually!

It was fantastic to meet the Trust team in person last week to discuss the findings of our heat and health study, which aims to help shape Wellcome’s research funding strategy. Our colleagues Andreea, Britta and Frank travelled to Wellcome’s HQ in London to deliver a workshop that explored the heat and health research priorities in Asia, what innovations are emerging to address those priorities, and who are the key stakeholders conducting or supporting research in this field.

We have been working with Wellcome for the past five months to map the research and innovation activities at the intersection of human health and heat in Asia and to identify opportunities to protect communities from heat through biomedical innovation.

To validate our findings, we have worked collaboratively with the Wellcome team to:

✅Analyse more than 100, 000 publications, patents and grants in heat and health
✅Interview 15 stakeholders from 10 countries
✅Launch a survey that reached more than 350 people

Our findings will be shared at the First GHHIN Southeast Asia Heat Health Forum in January 2025.
