📚MIDWEEK MILESTONE 📚

It's Independent Bookshop Week-and I can't think of a better midweek reason to celebrate. Our local bookshop is called Whitie's in Peebles.

There's something particular about an independent bookshop. It's not just a place to buy books. It's a place where people linger, recommend, discover, and connect. Where the person behind the counter knows your taste better than any algorithm ever could. Where strangers bond over a spine they both recognise.

In towns and cities of every size, independent bookshops quietly do something remarkable -they hold communities together. They become gathering places, safe havens, and local landmarks all at once.

If you have one near you, this week is the perfect excuse to walk through the door.

Tell me-do you have a favourite independent bookshop? What makes it special to you?

💫MONDAY MAGIC 💫

We're halfway through Pride and Community Month and I've been thinking about something which feels worth sharing.

Community, at its truest, is encompassing. It doesn't draw tight lines around who belongs instead it stretches to include all.

The Pride movement didn't evolve from a narrow cause. It grew from something deeply, universally human-the need to exist freely, to love openly, to be seen exactly as you are and welcomed anyway. Those aren't the concerns of a few. They belong to all of us.

As a Humanist Celebrant, inclusivity isn't something I add on-it's the foundation. Every ceremony I create is built on the belief that every person, every love, every life deserves to be honoured fully and most importantly, unconditionally.

That's what community really means to me. Not just people gathered together, but people genuinely belonging together.

Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈

✨ WEEKEND WONDERS✨

The rituals that find us............and the ones we choose

What a week of thinking about rituals it’s been- from the small daily ones that quietly hold our days together, to the big communal ones playing out on screens across the world right now.

And what strikes me, sitting with it all, is this: we are drawn to ritual. We seek it out, often without even realising. We make it without being asked.

The family mealtime. The football superstition. The bedtime routine with a child.

We do these things because they connect us-to each other, to who we are, to what we love.

And when the big moments come- the ones that change everything-that instinct doesn’t go away. If anything, it deepens.

I hope your weekend holds a little ritual of its own.

💭 FRIDAY THOUGHTS 💭

On a personal note…

Today we said goodbye to the last of a generation. My uncle was the last of my mum’s siblings, and there is something quietly profound about that. The baton now passes to the cousins to keep the ties going.....to carry the family forward.

We celebrated his life.. We thought about it being inevitable. It is what it is, yet it’s also everything.

🌏🏆WORLD CUP🏆🌏

A passing thought…

Whether you’re a football fanatic or completely averse to it, surely the World Cup is something on a grander scale of rituals altogether. A stage where the world unites regardless of differences on other fronts. Football -sport in general -has that remarkable unifying quality, whichever camp you belong to.

💫MONDAY MAGIC💫

Daily rituals- the little things that hold us together.

I was listening to Radio 2 yesterday morning and they had a phone-in about rituals. The starting point was around the rituals football fans have with the World Cup kicking off on Thursday. However, this evolved into people messaging in to share the rituals they have around many things in daily life.

It got me thinking about my own and one that came to mind was mealtimes growing up. Sitting down together as a family-not just to eat, but to be talk the day over together. It wasn’t fancy. It wasn’t formal, but it was ours. It happened every day and it's something that still matters to me today.

Rituals don’t have to be big or dramatic. They’re often the quietest things — the cup of tea made a certain way, the walk you always take or the song you always sing. But they hold something. They mark time. They say: this moment counts.

That’s what draws me to the work I do. The ceremonies I create are built around exactly that instinct-the very human need to pause, to mark and mean it.

💬 What daily rituals do you have? The ones so woven into your day you’d feel their absence immediately. Drop them in the comments 👇

✨ WEEKEND WONDERS ✨

We did it. 💙

Marathon distance. Done.

The photo on the left-full of hope, nerves and determination.

The photo on the right- two very tired, very happy sisters who gave everything they had.

This walk means so much to me, not just as a physical challenge, but because doing it with my sister reminds me of everything I believe in as a Humanist celebrant- that it's the people beside us who make life's journey meaningful.

Thank you so much to everyone who followed along this week and cheered us on. It genuinely kept us going. 💙
