The Met Gala was held on the 13th September at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme was “American Independence”. Here are some of our favourite looks:

1. YouTuber honours Marsha P. Johnson, an American icon who pioneered for LGBTQ+ rights. “When I got asked to join the Met Gala(!!!!!) I knew I wanted to pay homage to a trans icon who was at the forefront of the Stonewall Riots”. The dress was by Dutch designer .

2. Poet chose her dress and crystal headpiece to channel "a re-imagined Statue of Liberty”. The statement clutch includes the text: “Give us your tired”, reciting the poem engraved on the Statue of Liberty. She wanted her ensemble to represent how welcoming to diversity America should be, embracing of all.

3. New York Democratic congresswoman wore a white strapless gown, which featured the slogan “Tax the rich” emblazoned on the back in red. Brooklyn-based , founder of the label , made the dress. AOC is known for her progressive political values.

4. Tennis player celebrated her Haitian and Japanese heritage. By .

5. Model wears a white bulletproof vest emblazoned with the phrase “Peg the Patriarchy”. This was designed by at . “It’s about women empowerment, gender equality — it’s a bit like, ‘Stick it to the man,'” she stated.

6/7/8. Rapper told a three-part LGBTQ+ American fairytale. He arrived on the red carpet in a dramatic cape that exudes regality and represents concealing one's true self. The cape was then shed to reveal gleaming Medusa-adorned armour, a symbol of protection from the prejudices faced as a Black, q***r person. Finally, the armour is removed to reveal a skin-tight bodysuit that represents living life as your true, unguarded self. By .

“In The Life” by Myles Loftin 📸

“As a black q***r person, conversations around representation and inclusion within visual culture (specifically photography) become complicated. We are often ostracised in both the general q***r populous as well as the black community. And our inclusion in the overall canon of photography and art is scarcely documented, despite significant contributions to history”.

“In the Life” expands upon this exploration and focuses on the exclusion of black q***r life in photography. “In the Life” is q***ring black history by challenging the lack of visual representation accorded to q***r identities. I am creating an archive of images that black q***r people can look to for solace or inspiration. The photographs depict black q***r people both in public and intimate settings performing everyday tasks. Extreme care is given to each photograph in order to elevate the mundanity and humanity of our collective lived experiences”. -

Victoria Scone has made history. She is the first cisgender woman to be a contestant on Drag Race (season 3 of the UK version). Drag Race UK is paving for the way for inclusivity of women that have a passion for drag.

Scone has received both praise and criticism. In response to the criticism Scone tweeted: “Some need to understand that as a cis woman doing drag presenting as a woman it is still a f*ck you to society. I embody every gender stereotype that’s ever been instilled on me (as a woman) by society. I heighten it, I laugh at it, and then take a big q***r sh*t on it”. -

Drag is for everybody, regardless of your gender identity! Just like our shoes! ✨💫🌟
