We’re delighted to share a recording of our very own Darren Ashley, Valuer & Auctioneer at Hansons Cornwall, following his recent appearance on BBC Radio Cornwall!

Darren joined the team to discuss the fascinating world of antiques and auctions, following the incredible result achieved by a 1930s Patek Philippe Calatrava at our recent auction.

The watch, which had an estimate of £5,000-£10,000, went on to achieve an amazing £59,000, setting a new record for Hansons Cornwall! ⌚

But for Darren, it’s not just about the headline-making results. It’s about the stories, history and discoveries behind the objects that come through our doors - and the excitement of never quite knowing what might turn up next.

🏆 AN OUTSTANDING SALE AT HANSONS CORNWALL! 🏆

What a result! We’re delighted to celebrate an exceptionally successful auction, with a fantastic majority of lots selling and strong bidding throughout the sale. 🎉

The sale saw numerous lots achieve prices well above their pre-sale estimates, with particularly strong interest across a wide range of antiques, jewellery, watches, collectables and works of art.

The star of the sale was undoubtedly the Patek Philippe & Co Calatrava wristwatch, which sold for an incredible £59,000! ⌚️💥

And the success didn’t stop there, with many other lots achieving impressive prices and exceeding expectations.

We’re thrilled with the response from bidders, both in the saleroom and online, and incredibly grateful to all of our vendors, buyers and everyone who supported the auction.

🎉 A RECORD-BREAKING RESULT AT HANSONS CORNWALL! 🎉

What a result for Lot 15 in today’s auction!

⌚ A rare Patek Philippe & Co Calatrava Reference 448 gents wristwatch, circa 1930s, with fascinating Cornish provenance, was estimated at £5,000-£10,000.

After an incredible bidding battle, this exceptional timepiece SOLD FOR A HUGE £59,000! 🔨💥

🏆 £59,000 - a new record price for Hansons Cornwall!

The watch had been inherited from the vendor’s grandfather, who lived in Wadebridge and worked as a solicitor’s clerk in Bodmin. It was later passed to the vendor’s mother, who always knew she owned a valuable watch, before it was recently rediscovered in her jewellery box.

A truly remarkable result for a remarkable watch and a very special moment for Hansons Cornwall.
