We welcomed some lovely items through the doors today, including a selection of gold pieces heading for our upcoming jewellery auction on 7th December. 💛

We are delighted to announce an exciting forthcoming single-owner sale at Hansons Cornwall on Tuesday 17th November 2026.

The Estate of the Late Nicholas Thomas of Newlyn will include a fabulous lifetime collection of art and studio pottery, offering a wonderful opportunity to discover an interesting and varied collection assembled over many years.

With the contents now being prepared for the forthcoming auction, we look forward to sharing more details and giving you a first glimpse of the pieces included in this special sale.

🪙 An Exceptional Collection of Chinese & Japanese Coins

One of the standout lots in our auction was this impressive collection of Chinese and Japanese coins, spanning centuries of history from the Zhou Dynasty through to the Qing Dynasty.

The collection included a fascinating variety of forms of early Chinese currency, including bridge, knife, spade and key money, alongside cowrie shell money and an extensive selection of later Chinese coins. Also included were Korean coins, Japanese coins and gaming tokens, all housed across three collectors’ cabinets and numerous labelled trays.

Adding considerable interest to the collection was its distinguished provenance. It was formerly the collection of Frank A. Turk, Ph.D., Reader in Natural History & Oriental Art in the Extra-Mural Department at the University of Exeter. Dr Turk was also the author of Prints of Japan (1966) and Japanese Objets d’Art (1962), both published by Arco Publications, and was a long-standing member of the Royal Asiatic Society and a member of the Japan Society.

A collection with such breadth, historical interest and fascinating provenance attracted strong attention in the sale, ultimately achieving an impressive £3,700. 🪙👏

A wonderful result for a truly exceptional collection.

🐭 A Fantastic Result for our Mouseman Collection!

We were delighted with the results achieved by our recent collection of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson furniture, with five lots selling for a fantastic combined total of £7,340.

🪵 Lot 354 – An oak sideboard, circa 1930s.

🪑 Lot 355 – A rare set of eight burr oak panel-back dining chairs, including two armchairs, designed in the 1920s and produced in the 1930s.

🍽️ Lot 356 – An octagonal oak dining table, circa 1930s, with an adzed surface and carved mouse in relief to the base.

🪵 Lot 357 – A square oak occasional table, with four legs joined by an undertier and a carved mouse signature to the underside.

🧀 Lot 358 – An oak bread/cheese board, circa 1930s, of octagonal form with carved mouse signature.

Known for his distinctive carved mouse signature, Mouseman furniture has become highly sought-after by collectors, with its craftsmanship, character and individuality making each piece truly special.

Across the five lots in our recent sale, the collection attracted strong interest from bidders and achieved a wonderful overall result of £7,340. 👏
