For collectors of California w**es, one standout is the rarely seen Sine Qua Non Whisperin’ E 2002 – the white counterpart to the producer’s celebrated Hollerin’ M. Produced in very small quantities by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, Sine Qua Non has developed a global cult following for its distinctive Rhône-inspired w**es.

🍷 A tale of two Rhônes.

The Rhône Valley may be one w**e region, but its Northern and Southern halves offer strikingly different styles. In the cooler, steeper Northern Rhône, Syrah takes centre stage, producing powerful, structured w**es from appellations such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, St-Joseph and Cornas.

Further south, the landscape becomes warmer and more expansive, with Grenache at the heart of many blends. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is perhaps the region’s most famous appellation, where Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre can be joined by a remarkable 15 other permitted varieties. 🍇

Our September auction brings together bottles from across this Rhône divide, including Paul Jaboulet, E. Guigal, Delas Frères and Domaine Jean-Louis Chave from the Northern Rhône, alongside Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and the iconic Château de Beaucastel from the south.

Our September w**e auction features 21 large format bottles, offering collectors the chance to explore some of the world’s most sought-after w**es in sizes made for both ageing and sharing.

With a lower ratio of oxygen to w**e than standard bottles, large formats can mature more slowly, allowing greater complexity to develop over time. They’re also produced in smaller quantities, making them extremely rare. And, of course, they make quite an impression when it’s time to open one. ✨

Highlights this month include Château Latour 1981 Jeroboam, Château Mouton Rothschild 1989 Magnum, Gaja 1988 Magnum, Dom Pérignon 2009 Magnum and a Charles Heidsieck Methuselah.
