On 12 June, we present "Kisetsu", Seasons of Japanese Whisky - our dedicated Japanese Whisky Auction 🌸 A landmark auction featuring an extraordinary bottle: Karuizawa 1960, “The Poet.”

One of just 41 bottles ever produced, and the oldest Karuizawa ever released, this is a moment in whisky history from a distillery that will never produce again. Each bottle is a work of art, from the hand-painted calligraphy, to the Wenge wood puzzle box, to the individually carved netsuke, each one is unique. Consigned directly by Marcin Miller, founder of Number One Drinks (the company that acquired Karuizawa’s remaining stock) this bottle carries an unmatched provenance.

Alongside this landmark bottle, the auction brings together a remarkable cast of Japanese whisky icons, from a one-of-a-kind Karuizawa 1998 created in collaboration with internationally acclaimed artist Harland Miller, to the legendary Yamazaki 55 Year Old, the oldest Japanese whisky ever bottled and seldom seen at auction. There will also be several Ichiro’s Malt Hanyu Card Series ‘1st Card’ bottlings, among the most revered releases in Japanese whisky collecting 🃏

🥃 Irish whiskey hasn’t always been the global powerhouse we know today. In fact, some of its most fascinating bottles come from a time when the industry was fighting to survive.

From the early 1900s through to the 1960s, distilleries like John Jameson & Son, John Power & Son, and Cork Distilleries Company kept production alive during a period shaped by war, trade disruption, and Prohibition. With export markets collapsing, whiskey was often sold by the cask rather than as a finished product.

Publicans and merchants would bottle the spirit themselves, using official labels. As a result, there is very little consistency in bottle shape or presentation. Each one is different and quirky, often stamped with the name of the bottler, making these bottles unique and highly individual pieces of Irish whiskey history.

From small-town pubs to historic Dublin establishments, each one carries a sense of place and personality, whether it’s a bottling tied to a long-standing bar or a lost venue that no longer exists. You’ll also find early examples of brands we recognise today, like Redbreast, shaped through partnerships rather than distillery-led releases.

This 1987 28 Year Old The Macallan is a playful, tongue-in-cheek 6-bottle collection, each inspired by the Teletubbies and designed to gently parody the distillery’s iconic Red Collection Javi Aznarez-designed labels and striking new architecture at Easter Elchies.

Created by The Malt Room in Inverness using exceptional single cask stock sourced from Morrison & Mackay, and brought to life with label artwork by Andrew Soetiono, this release balances serious whisky credentials with standout creativity, with only one set ever produced. 🥃
