It's been a hectic summer, so apologies for the lack of posts!

Firstly, we have a winner in our hive naming competition.
The winner is 'The Nectar Collectors' named by Sarah on behalf of the Button Family! Congratulations Sarah, your name is now immortalised on our hive!

Secondly, the bees.... well, like a lot of farmers out there, this was a pretty bad summer for us, and other beekeepers. The six weeks or so of no rain whatsoever meant that the flowers had no nectar and therefore the bees couldn't make honey. We only had harvests in the spring and then one right at the end of the summer, when the rain did start up again for a couple of weeks. The result is the bees produced less than half the honey that they did last year, and the year before! They main thing is they are OK and we are now feeding them so they are prepared for the winter. Lets hope we have some rain inbetween some nice sunny days next year!

It's swarm time again! At this time of year the bees just can't wait to get going as soon as the sun peeks out after a gloomy spell. We collected a lovely swarm from a cherry tree earlier today and they are now safely in our last empty hive. Five hives, five colonies! Now we can look forward to the first harvest of this year's delicious honey which should be within the next few weeks! 🐝🐝🍯

Tomorrow, the 20th of May, is World Bee Day and we have a busy day planned.
Early in the morning we will be speaking to a reporter from BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, so you might hear us during the breakfast show.
We will be giving talks about beekeeping later in the morning, to the residents of a local care home, and in the afternoon, to a local primary school.
If you want to do something to help bees, consider growing 'bee friendly' plants such as lavender, foxgloves and borage. Bees like blue, purple and violet coloured flowers.
Take part in 'No Mow May' so that wildflowers are allowed to grow and provide pollen and nectar for bees.
