Last week, we were called by a member of the public whose vehicle had broken down in a live lane on a busy motorway. 🚨 🚔

When the caller got through to the operator, they said 'Pegasus', followed by their pin... to which the operator knew exactly what to do. 💡

Have you heard of the Pegasus Scheme? It is designed for anyone who has a disability or illness that may make it hard for them to communicate with the police.

Anyone who has previously registered with the Pegasus Scheme will have their pre-registered information saved on our systems, meaning we can access it quickly if you call us - and you won't need to repeat all your details or communication needs to us over the phone. This can be helpful in situations like this one, which a lot of people may find difficult or stressful to handle.

For this caller, the operator was able to quickly load all of their personal details and communication needs on our system and act accordingly. The caller and operator were able to communicate in a way that worked for them, and officers were soon allocated to come and assist the caller.

We had 31 silent 999 calls in January where we were needed at the scene immediately – that’s one every single day 😮

Some of these calls were from people suffering domestic abuse, who couldn't say much but urgently needed our help to escape a desperate situation 🏠 😞

Did you know that pressing 55 after calling 999 alerts police operators that you need help but are in a situation where you can't talk?

Pressing 55 lets the 999 operator know your call is genuine, and they will try to track your location. If you can't speak, listen carefully to the questions and instructions from our call agents in the demand hub so they can assess your call and arrange help 👀📱

HollieGuard is an app that can track a person’s location as they make their way home, as they’re out jogging or cycling, or simply going about their day to day tasks.

If they feel unsafe, all they need to do is shake their phone to send an alert to a group of contacts to warn them that they may be in danger. Once the phone has been shook, it will then start recording both audio and visual footage of what’s happening around them.

This will be saved and sent to their contacts so they can see what is happening, and call the police or ambulance service if they are required.

If the phone is shook again, a flashing light and high-pitched beeping will start coming from the phone to alert people nearby that that person may be in danger.

Key features of the app include:

• Journey - Allows a person to safely and confidently travel, by providing their emergency contacts with real-time updates of their movements as they move between two places.

• Meeting - This function allows the person to identify when they are going to a potentially dangerous meeting or working alone. An alert will automatically be created if the timer expires or they do not cancel the meeting.

• Man Down - Man Down will send an alert to a dedicated contacts to make them aware if a person hasn’t moved in a while. The app will flag sudden non-movement and impact, for example if someone has been assaulted or fallen down.

• Duress Pin - If a person is being forced to cancel an alert they can enter the Duress Pin of 9999. The alert will appear to have been cancelled, but will remain active on HollieGuard’s secure server, so they will know the person has been forced to cancel an alert.
