Having worked in the education system for the past 16 years, I am beyond appalled to sit under a system promoting this discriminatory profiling. What we need is greater understanding, real inclusion for autistic people. Ofsted needs to do better.

I am in the midst of rolling out autism training to a charity helpline for people experiencing distress. The statistics are startling - the autistic community is at a high risk of su***de compared to the non-autistic population. This is because of systemic barriers, not being autistic in itself.

I am a teacher, but also an advocate. I relate with a heavy heart to this message from Pete Wharmby, Autistic Author. We know there are critical failings in our education system for autistic young people, we know there are failings in adult services for autistic adults too. But the one thing each and every person can do is question their held views, educate themselves and empathise greater with the experiences of autistic children, young people and adults.
