We've worked with many organisations through transformation and one thing we talk about often is user adoption.

We talk about it for one simple reason: it really is important.

You can deliver the technology, redesign the process and hit every implementation milestone but the value only comes when people understand the change, are involved, are ready for it, have the capability to work differently and ultimately choose to adopt it.

That’s why we believe Business Change needs to run across the entire transformation lifecycle not appear towards the end as something to prepare people for implementation.

As a new week begins, it's tempting to dive straight into the emails, meetings, and ever-growing to-do list. Before you do, take a moment to pause.

Being busy doesn't always mean you're making progress. The most successful teams don't try to do everything, they focus on the work that creates the biggest impact.

Being busy can feel productive but activity and progress are not always the same thing.

When diaries are full, meetings are back-to-back, and teams are constantly responding to new demands, it is easy to lose sight of what is actually moving the project or business forward.

Sometimes, the most valuable thing you can do is pause.

Take a step back. Review the bigger picture. Revisit the outcome you are working towards, and ask:

🔹 Are we focused on the right priorities?
🔹 Are our actions creating meaningful progress?
🔹 What could we stop, simplify, or do differently?

Clarity helps teams make better decisions, focus their energy, and deliver with greater purpose because progress is not about doing more, it is about doing what matters.

"Rerouting." The most honest word in business, even though it usually comes from a satnav and not a strategy meeting.

Every plan hits a closed road eventually. Traffic nobody predicted, a diversion that adds forty minutes, a junction where two people in the car are convinced they know the better way and neither of them do.

Most businesses handle this badly. They either keep driving at the roadblock, hoping it'll move, or they panic and take the first exit going, ending up somewhere further from where they wanted to be.

The businesses that get where they're going aren't the ones who avoid every roadblock, nobody does. They're the ones who reroute calmly, keep the destination in view, and don't mistake a diversion for being lost.

That's genuinely most of what we do. We're not the ones driving. We're just very good at reading the map when things stop going to plan.

If your business had a departures board, how many projects would say "delayed"?

Every business has a version of this board. Some projects are boarding on time, moving exactly where they said they would. A few are "delayed," which everyone quietly knows means "we haven't looked at this in weeks." One or two are straight up "cancelled," except nobody's officially said so, they've just faded from every meeting agenda without explanation.

And there's always one flashing "final call," the project everyone knows is close to being too late to save, but nobody's said it out loud yet.

We're not air traffic control, but we do the same basic job. We look at the whole board, work out what's actually moving, what's stuck, and what needs calling out before it becomes a bigger problem. Then we get things back on schedule, calmly, without the tannoy announcements.

If your business had a dating profile, what would the bio say? Be honest, not aspirational.

"Looking for someone low maintenance." Translation: three unresolved projects and a strategy document that hasn't been opened since the summer.

"Enjoys spontaneity." Translation: nobody's planned past next Tuesday.

"Great communicator, allegedly." Translation: comms happen, they're just spread across four platforms and nobody's sure which one is the real one.

"It's complicated." Translation: it's always been complicated, and everyone's stopped mentioning it out loud.

Here's the thing about dating profiles and businesses, the honest version is always more useful than the polished one. We're not interested in the version written for the brochure. We want the real bio, the messy one, because that's the one that actually tells us where to start.
