Wing City devours electricity.⚡

Fryers, extraction, hot holding, and the lights on long after the last order has gone out. They always knew that bill would be one of the big ones.

What they couldn’t tell was whether it was a fair one. Open your first place and you can judge most things for yourself. Energy contracts are not one of them. Nothing to compare against, and an industry in no hurry to help you work it out.

So we told them how we get paid, before anything else. Went to market and came back with a quote that stood up. Showed them what to look for, so the next renewal isn’t a coin toss.

Three years later, £4,279 has stayed in the till. And we still pick up the phone.

There's something quite nice about watching a club you've backed for years go top of the league. 🏉

If you hadn't noticed, Albion are flying, and we couldn't be prouder to be along for the ride as a Plymouth Albion RFC sponsor.

Our founder Joedy Lawrence has been an Albion supporter long before Smarta existed, so backing the club through our ground board and our sponsorship of club captain Huw Taylor is personal.

The club talk about clarity, ambition and community. That's a decent summary of how we try to run things too. Turns out straight-talking and people-first travel well, whether you're negotiating a utilities contract or a scrum.

Thirty hot showers every Saturday from September to April.

That is before the floodlights, the clubhouse and the gym. The Brickfields does not go quiet between fixtures, and the gas meter knows it.

Then prices climbed. Standing still would have meant the bill climbed too. And nobody at a rugby club wants to spend a Tuesday on hold to an energy supplier.

So we took the contract to the suppliers we know and came back 14% under what the club was set to pay. One call from their end. We did the rest.

Wow! What an evening we had in the big smoke 🎉

It's not very often we accept the offer for a hospitality event with our suppliers - but boy what a night!

We were invited along to SUSHISAMBA at Heron Tower, London, as guests of Pozitive Energy, celebrating a full decade of PE in style.

Even legendary DJ Carl Cox turned up to throw down a set! 🎧

It's important to step away from running a business sometimes and reflect on why you do what you do. Last night was one of those magic moments, and I even had my best mate alongside me!

Please join us in welcoming Maryam to the Smarta family! A recent graduate from the University of Plymouth with a Bachelor's in Digital Media Design, Maryam explored everything from graphic and multimedia design to 3D animation before finding her passion in marketing and social media. Along the way, she picked up hands-on experience through micro-internships and volunteer roles spanning animation, video, and social media content, all while working part-time in hospitality. Outside of work, you'll usually find her lost in a good fantasy or adventure book, or binge-watching old Disney and DreamWorks movies.

A couple fun facts about Maryam:

Before joining the Smarta family, Grace trained as a chef and spent eight years in hospitality, working her way up from bar maid to manager and picking up a wealth of customer service experience along the way. She also brought that people-first approach into the energy world, working in a call center for an energy company before first joining Smarta back in 2022. After a bit of time away, she's returned to the team in 2026 and we couldn't be happier to have her back! When she's not at work, you'll find her in the kitchen; baking is her passion, and her smartie cookies are the stuff of legend.

Would you attend a 30-minute meeting if it made you £500?

Which is odd. Because that's often exactly where the savings are hiding.

We regularly find businesses spending more time choosing a coffee machine than reviewing a contract worth thousands of pounds.
