Staying Safe with Children During Event Season
With the event season well and truly upon us, it’s important to make sure you and your children are prepared. Large crowds can be overwhelming, but with a few simple steps, you can ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable day out.
Talk About Safety
Start the day by chatting with your children. Let them know:
How many people will be there
What the crowd might be like
Any ground rules (e.g. don’t wander off, stay where you can see me)
Take a Photo
Before heading out, take a quick photo of your child in their outfit for the day. If you get separated, this can help security quickly identify them.
Pick a Meeting Point
Choose an easy-to-recognise spot and agree to meet there if anyone gets lost. Make sure it’s a fixed point that doesn’t move or get too crowded.
Teach About 'Safe Strangers'
Show your child what event staff, security, or stewards look like. Let them know it’s okay—and encouraged—to go to them for help.
Stay Together
It might seem obvious, but it’s surprisingly easy to get separated in large, moving crowds. Keep checking in with each other.
Use a Wristband (Our team Security Management South West Ltd can supply these on the day)
Write your phone number on a wristband or sticker and attach it to your child. If someone finds them, they can contact you straight away.
Using these tips will help everyone enjoy the event with peace of mind and make sure your day out is remembered for the fun, not the fuss.
