I got this text message today from a mum of a boy I have provided intervention for. He has verbal dyspaxia and has difficulty with the coordination of mouth movements to produce speech sounds.

"I wanted to let you know that ***** did his GCSE English speech today and has literally just phoned us to tell us that he got a distinction and wanted you to be one of the first to know, because without you it wouldn't have been possible ###"

I love my job, I'm so proud of all the hard work he has put in to achieve this!

I got this email from a parent of a child, I have been seeing via Zoom, prior to today's session.

"I think a lot of those words sound so much better than when he started out a few months ago. I’ll let you see what you think when you see him later. He has honestly been so excited for Tuesday to come around all week!"

The child had indeed made amazing progress due to the therapy, advice and recommendations I provided. In the session, I also saw his older brother as he felt left out. The oldest does not have speech and language difficulties, but wanted to join in as the sessions were so exciting!!

Due to Covid-19, government guidelines require speech and language therapists to wear full PPE with face masks whilst seeing children face to face. This is not ideal as the masks impact on our communication. Therefore, I am providing intervention to children over video consultations. This has been a fantastic experience which really works. If you would like speech and language support for your child in these uncertain times, please contact me.

After watching the silent child. I am so angry that it says that a speech and language therapist will not help support a child who has a hearing impairment with signing. I would support any functional communication a child has. This includes technology, signing or a communication book. I am fully supportive of signing. Please don't listen to media. I am fuming...
