It started with a cinema room. 🔒

We first visited this home in Dorset as part of a Tech Solutions job, upgrading their cinema room. Once that was done, they asked if we could look after their fire and security systems too.

So our Fire and Security team have now taken over the fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV and automated gate access control. We started with a full check of their existing systems, so we know exactly what we're looking after.

Four separate systems, each needing regular attention. Having the same engineers look after all of them means one point of contact, and nothing gets missed.

Being asked to look after the rest says a lot about how the first job went.

Over 200 miles from Poole to Liverpool, for one of our clients. 🚐

Most of our work happens across Dorset, Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall. But when a client we already look after needs us further afield, we don't pass them on to someone they've never met. We get in the van and go.

This week Alan headed up to the Lush store in Liverpool city centre to investigate their intruder alarm and other systems, with a view to us taking them over. A proper takeover survey means understanding exactly what's installed, how it's been looked after and what needs attention, so nothing gets missed when the system changes hands. 🔍

It's the same engineers and the same standard of service, wherever your sites happen to be.

Putting a camera on the wall is the easy part. 📷

The install for a CCTV system isn't finished once the cameras are physically up. Every camera then gets properly configured and calibrated, so it's actually covering what it needs to, not just pointing in roughly the right direction.

That means setting the right resolution and video quality for each camera. It means adjusting the pan, tilt and zoom to properly cover entrances, gardens and blind spots. And it means checking the live feed on site, camera by camera, to confirm the coverage is exactly right before the job gets signed off.

It's this last part of the job that makes the difference between a system that technically works and one that actually does what it's there for.

There's more to CCTV maintenance than you might think. 📹

James recently carried out CCTV maintenance for PKF Francis in Poole, and it's a good example of what that actually involves.

Every camera gets checked against the back office system to make sure the views haven't drifted or been knocked out of position.

Then there's the physical side. Cleaning each camera itself, since dust and grime on a lens can quietly ruin footage long before anyone notices on screen.

An installed system and a maintained system are not the same thing. Only one of them can actually be relied on when it matters.

Six flats, one door entry system, built to run smoother and last for years to come. 🔒

We recently replaced the door entry system at a block of flats with a brand new Videx installation. The new setup gives every apartment its own clearly labelled button, plus a dedicated trade button for deliveries and contractors. It's all built around a smoother, more future proofed way in and out of the building.

Behind the panel itself, the new control unit runs off a proper power supply with battery backup, so the system keeps working even during a power cut. Everything is neatly wired and labelled too, ready for whoever needs to service it down the line.

One site, three systems, working as one. 🔥

At Andover Enterprise Park we installed a full scope monitored fire alarm, intruder alarm and CCTV system, all managed together rather than as separate boxes bolted on over time. Every device reports back to a single monitored panel, so an issue anywhere on site gets picked up straight away.

We also fitted external sounders in the car park that play automated warning messages the moment the alarm is triggered, giving anyone outside a clear instruction rather than just a noise to react to.

Most kitchens have a fire extinguisher and stop there, but a fire blanket does a different job and it's often the faster option. 🧯

Thrown over a pan fire, or wrapped around someone whose clothing has caught alight, it smothers the flames by cutting off the oxygen. There's no spray, no mess, and no risk of grabbing the wrong extinguisher and making an electrical fire worse.

Every commercial kitchen should have one mounted somewhere obvious, within reach without leaning over the hob it's meant to protect. It's one of the cheapest pieces of fire safety kit there is, yet also one of the most overlooked when it comes to checking it's still in date and undamaged.

A wireless alarm install in Sandbanks that also keeps an eye on things. 👀

Alfie recently completed a full wireless intruder alarm install in Sandbanks, including Ajax's newer MotionCam Plus detector, a PIR sensor with a built in camera. It still does the usual job of spotting movement, but the camera means you get a photo of what actually triggered it, not just an alert with no context.

For a property like this, that extra bit of visual confirmation makes a real difference, giving the homeowner both the detection and a quick way to check what set it off, all through one system rather than bolting a separate camera on top.

Most motion detectors can tell you something triggered them. This one shows you exactly what. 📸

Alfie from our Fire and Security team talks through the Ajax MotionCam Plus in our latest video, a motion detector for intruder alarm systems that also has a camera built in. That's not standard. Most detectors only sense movement, they don't actually see it.

The moment the alarm is triggered, the MotionCam Plus captures three photos and a short video clip, giving you real visual confirmation of what set it off rather than just an alert on your phone.
